The two celebrities they singled out were Deng Lun and Wang Yibo.

Deng Lun enjoyed popularity in South Korea through the series, “Ashes of Love”, while Wang Yibo debuted in South Korea 6 years ago through his group UNIQ and experienced a resurgence in popularity over there with “The Untamed”. The comments ranged from:

“Deng Lun and Yibo are for real?
“Deng Lun Yang Zi ssi-bal
“Is Deng Lun crazy?”
“Why are you like this, Deng Lun?”
“Deng Lun is crazy, why are you in there? Really ssi-bal”
“Isn’t Deng Lun really popular in our country? Ashes of Love?”
“Bye Deng Lun”
“Deng Lun, first Chinese artist I was interested in and then I was shattered. I can only treat “Ashes of Love” as a wonderful memory.”
“Deng Lun, Wang Yibo, Xiao Zhan, all have their own rooms on theqoo, right? It seems their popularity in Korea is quite high.”
“Once loved, Deng Lun”
“Deng Lun, ssi-bal…Yang zi…What we’re following are not Chinese celebrities, but stupid Chinese devils.”
“Really annoying, ssi-bal Deng Lun”
“Deng Lun Wang Yibo Xiao Zhan ssi-bal”
“Those kids who like Deng Lun and Wang Yibo are real ssi-bal”.
“Those who like Deng Lun and Wang Yibo go to China.”
“Wang Yibo and Deng Lun often show up in the theqoo ranking.”
“Liked Deng Lun before”
“Deng Lun and Xiao Zhan leave well. It was very happy during this time.”

Chinese netizens responded to the theqoo comments:

“If your idol doesn’t even love their own country, would you like them?”
“The saddest thing is Korean fans know how to quit being their fans, but domestic fans of Korean [stars] don’t even know how to quit being their fans.”
“Each country liking their own country’s fans is fine. It’s enough for us to like our own country’s celebrities. Who cares about them?”
“Not losing out on you guys”
“Just develop domestically in the future, the amount of domestic fans is already enough.”
“What are they boycotting? It’s not like they’re making money there. Those Koreans are viewing themselves too importantly.”
“We didn’t yell at those Korean stars any less on Weibo for insulting Chinese celebrities. Hope everyone yells at each other to create new sparks.”
“Ssi-bal your younger sister”

dang aren't xiao zhan and wang yibo the doods from that 2 doods chinese drama (sorry can't think or be bothered enough to search for the name rn ahahhah)

damn even luhan and lay yikes

anyways they sure are wild aren't they

chinese government is really f*cked up by using celebrities to manipulate people, entertainment is suppose to be fun, free, spread love and for everyone but somehow always end up in political mess especially in certain countries, it's always tragic to see. Also I wonder how china will recover from this sheeet storm cause they sure as hell f*cked up their reputation more and more around the world lol

Can someone enlighten me, what's the issue?

I don't understand why celebrities have to be political. Like are they forced to do so in China? Else there would be no benefit for them, especially for those former K-idols.

yes, they are forced to in China if they want a career there, but one could argue about the morality of supporting a totalitarian regime that murders its own citizens for the sake of one's own career, which is the controversy.

ngl I don't know full context but it sure looks quite forced especially for some of em, some of em don't give off politic enthusiast vibes. I mean what benefit will they even get by publicly siding with a worldly hated country, so it's mostly likely didn't have a choice situation lol

Ccp support lmao. They're big. Won't hurt to be in their good side. Most likely told by their companies and or situation and have little choice, is true.

Also yes @ how disgusting china government to use celebrities to spread propagandas. It's too extreme....

Extremely disappointed in Wang Yibo and Xiao Zhan

Those two got popular from originally almost banned novel getting drama adaptation, i truly expected them to be more aware with exceptional attention they got internationally for acting in one of the most known BL dramas.

I doubt. I talked with a friend few days ago, half Chinese. She defended this saying China is helping them, because they are uneducated and cant adapt to community so they are poor. their brainwash is definitely stronger than what most think. I truly believe most of the celebs dont even see anything wrong with what they saying now.

I'm Chinese-American.  I have Chinese-living-in-China friends.  I agree there's a lot of propaganda at play, but these celebs are way too international to not know about the horrors of NK.  I mean look at "I'm-from-Hong-Kong" Jackson, who now licks the boots of the CCP, or the likes of Jackie Chan.  Don't infantilize them.  They know what they're doing, and the bodies they're stepping on to make their living.

This person im talking about living whole another continent away from this, yet still thinks like this. So it wouldnt surprise me if some of them think they are words of justice and incredibly smart, while rest is just sucking up. Im not infantilizing them btw, i truly think some of them are this... Incapable of any thinking power if i were to say it nicely. Basically some are not the brightest crayola in the box.

Spoiler

Btw can you edit and delete my comment, i realized i dont want to go too political as it stresses me out lol

@spopo its up!!

Jackie Chan's half-sister from his mother's side was paraded and publicly humiliated in their hometown because their father was a Nationalist spy who escaped to Hongkong before Jackie was born,
and his half-brothers from his dad's side were left to starve in the streets bc people were afraid they'd be punished for raising the sons of a traitor.
I forgot what part it was but it was all mentioned in his Traces of a Dragon documentary.
So out of all the idols/celebs "celebrating" China's "involvement" in the Korean war, I partly understand Jackie Chan, even tho I disagree abt his actions overall.
Because his family has has been targeted before, and will most likely be targeted again if Jackie gives a slightest hint that he's against the Chinese govt. Especially now that HK is back under China's control.
Hope ppl cancelling Jackie Chan and other C-celebs have the same energy cancelling Lebron and the non-Chinese NBA players/mgmt  who sided with China during the Hongkong protests.  Especially since they are not from China and don't have family living in China.

He wasn't afraid to voice out his thoughts against the ccp oppression in 1989 but everything changed after china became mega rich. His love toward china now certainly not because of his or his family's safety.

Mess. They literally got their name out just thanks to South Korea and now side with North? Like... Really?

They literally didn't. South Koreans never paid their bills. Wang Yibo was a NOBODY during the short time he was a k-pop idol. He became popular NOT promoting in Korea, but as a Chinese actor from Yuehua pushing him into projects. They only know him because of a Chinese drama. None of those names have SK to thank....AT ALL. Can't suddenly claim him after spending years pretending he doesn't exist.

You could make the case for people like Jackson or Lay, but not Deng Lun, Wang Yibo, or Dilireba.

I think we all know that even if they did get popular because of SK, they would still get on their knees to worship China even when their livelihood came from SK citizen's pockets, that doesn't change. That's the main point here.

They're Chinese actors/actresses that have little to no connection with South Korea. That's the point.

Might as well create a thread titled, "Chinese celebrities support Chinese political viewpoints" Koreans are outraged.

Lay, Luhan, Victoria, Kyulkyung, Cheng Xiao, Meiqi etc are the one who I was targeting tbh. But yeah. Should have say it specifically.

Chinese celebrity supporting Chinese politics is not surprising tbh. But those who literally left their country to start their careers in SK cause more oportunities and now supporting NK kinda makes me see them as fake and easy to buy. If it was about internal issue of China, one could understand but this is ridiculous lvl of hypocrisy in my opinion.

Hongkong was under British administration back in 1989 and not under China until 1997.
His son Jaycee became a HK resident in 2003 [x].
Jackie's films Rush Hour 3 and the Shinjuku incident got banned in China in 2007 and 2008 for strange reasons. [x]  [x]
After that Jackie Chan became the Narcotics Control Ambassador of the Chinese police in 2009 and started making pro-CN, anti-HK and anti-TW statements.
His son Jaycee was arrested for drug offences in 2015, a crime where the capital punishment is execution. [x
And he became even more pro-China after that.
So i still think Jackie's love toward China nowadays has sth do with him and his family's safety.

Jun and The8 have reposted support of the HK police against HK protestors.

They haven't reposted support for China's part in the KR war, maybe bc they're still working in KR unlike Jieqiong.

If she had, she wouldn't be bashed for wearing fake brands in China. [x]

Kyulkyung got her name out as member of IOI. Was the ehole Produce thing scam? Definitelly. But honestly if she debuted in China solely she wouldnt be where she is now. 🤷
