Thoughts on Dual concept groups?

Like Blackpink, Red Velvet etc.

Do you like them hate them?

I love Blackpink and Red Velvet but I think the idea of "Dual Concepts" is useless, because any Kpop group that has a long career or even a normal length career will go through several different concepts, like strong, cute, dark, experimental, hard and what not.

true most groups naturally experiment and try different concepts over their lifetime.

however the beauty of a dual concept for some people is the stability.

i feel red velet does it better than black pink tho..

I like the idea, and I like Blackpink and Red Velvet, but the dual concept thing for their groups in itself doesn't really do much for me.

It would be really cool if a kpop group did a dreamy/dark dual concept. Like a wjsn/dreamcatcher type deal. Like imagine if Loona did that. I think it would be sick lol

what's considered a "black" concept versus a "pink" concept? genuinely curious.  can someone give title track examples?

as for red velvet, i guess it's nice to have a basis of what to expect before comebacks.  that way fans who really prefer one over the other aren't taken by surprise when the song drops or something...like sometimes groups will have teasers that do not correlate to the sound of the title track at all.  if you know it's going to be a "velvet" track you can at least manage your expectations accordingly, to a degree

I don't really believe it or think it makes sense hhh . Idk do all other grps always change concept or stuck to 1? Generally imo no. In general tho idc ab the labeling of any concepts, its too generalized to me. I look at if i like the song etc, not try to fit it into a general concept

Blackpink has dual concept?

On topic, it's interesting if the concepts are not necessarily contrasting but significantly different and they can pulled them off smoothly.

To be honest besides the sounds I don't really see the difference in red velvet duality concept.

I would feel most confident in labeling KTL a "black" concept and AIIYL a "pink" concept

You mean to tell me that you get similar vibes when you watch Rookie and Psycho one after the other? I find that hard to believe.

They don't have a dual concept, it's a conclusion people came up with because the name has two colours in it. BP's concept is to be both colours at once, not just fierce, but also feminine. The only time, I know of, that they mentioned something in regards to it is during AIIYL when they said it's a bit more on the pink side-basically more girly, feminine.

When people have to choose which of BP's songs are 'black' or 'pink' they don't even know which song to put where, that's because they don't have this clear distinction, because that's not their concept to begin with. And then they blame it on BP not executing it well.

isn't red velvet the only group that is officially confirmed to have a dual concept? or at least, until they eventually melded the concepts into one concept.

i feel like there are more groups that subtly hint at it rather than actually have it confirmed. like oh my girl, i believe? i'm mostly familiar with their dual concepts of quirky + youthful / fairy. i might be missing some groups, but it doesn't seem like there are many who do dual concepts.

in red velvet's case, i agree with you. it was really fun and cool at first, especially because they were just starting out. but it wasn't a surprise to see sm kind of drop it and just combine it into one concept. it was kind of sad to see them underperforming whenever it was time for their velvet side, esp considering the quality of 'the velvet'. their velvet side was great, but it obviously wasn't successful as their red side. why would sm want their girl group to have a hit every comeback (and also risk ruining momentum at the same time) when they could have a continuous streak of hits instead? i'm glad they dropped it, tbh.

I worded it wrong. I have to not able to see well to not see the difference, no.

I meant, what makes their "duality concept" different from other groups concept changing? Snsd, from 'kissing you' to 'the boys', to 'holiday'. But you don't see "duality" tagging them.

For Blackpink, As If It's Your Last would be the best example of a pink song. Maybe Lovesick Girls and definitely Ice Cream.

What BP did in 2018 and 2019 was releasing a Black title track and a Pink promoted b-side.

Black: Ddu-Du Ddu-du, Kill This Love

Pink: Forever Young, Don't Know What To Do

To offer diversity. I like it

Oh My Girl are loved for their Night concept (Closer, Windy Day, Secret Garden, 5th Season, Destiny cover etc.) but receive mixed reviews for their Day concept (Cupid, Liar Liar, Bungee, Coloring Book etc.) They almost disbanded because of that too, so they have gone more Night lately.
