It has been revealed that BTS’ Suga received surgery for his shoulder.

In an official statement released on November 6, Big Hit Entertainment shared that Suga underwent surgery to repair his torn shoulder labrum on November 3. He decided to receive surgery in preparation for his mandatory military service as well as his career afterwards, and the decision was made after extensive discussion with the agency.

As a result of the surgery, Suga will be unable to participate in most activities, which may include promotions for BTS’s upcoming album “BE.”

Read the full statement below:

Hello.

This is Big Hit Entertainment.

We would like to provide information regarding the health of BTS member Suga.

Suga underwent surgery to repair his torn shoulder labrum on November 3. The surgery, to address a problem that had constantly been a health and wellness issue for Suga, was completed successfully, and he is currently resting and recovering following his physician’s advice that Suga must undergo a strict and unhindered period of recovery.

As many fans know, Suga has long suffered from shoulder-related health issues. Suga’s shoulder issues began when he was injured in an accident that occurred in 2012 before his debut, and he was diagnosed with a dislocated shoulder in 2013. Shoulder pains continued until he was further diagnosed in 2019 with “posterior labral tear of his left shoulder,” which means that the cartilage around his left shoulder joint has been torn. Since then, he has continued to receive various treatment to prevent his injury from affecting his activities.

Suga has long suffered from a wide range of symptoms including the inability to raise his arms high and sudden bouts of pain. He underwent constant rehabilitation and treatment during his career, but unfortunately his symptoms did not improve measurably. These symptoms have appeared with increasing frequency in recent years, affecting Suga not only on the stage but in the course of his daily life as well.

Suga also felt that it was important for him to restore himself to good health to prepare for his mandatory military service as well as his post-service musical career. After extensive discussion with the company, the decision was made to undergo the surgical procedure.

Following the surgery, Suga will be unable to participate in most official activities so that he may fully focus on his recovery. Once doctors determine that the site of the operation has healed sufficiently, Suga will begin physical therapy so that he can ultimately return to the stage healthy and fully recovered. It may be difficult for Suga to meet his long-awaited fans for some time, including for the upcoming BTS “BE” album promotional activities. We apologize to every fan who has waited patiently to meet Suga again, and we ask for your generous and loving understanding.

Suga wishes his fans to know that he is “very aware of how concerned and worried the fans must be and knows how sad the fans must feel.”

He said, “Please understand this time as being my chance to prepare to meet you again strong and healthy, and even if I must be away for a short while, please wait for me to come back to you.”

Big Hit will always strive to ensure the health and safety of all of our artists.

Thank you.

UPDATE:

Hello, this is SUGA.

Since the announcement, many were worried for me, and I'm sorry and very thankful for that..!
So fortunately, the surgery went well. While there's some pain, I feel pretty unburdened now. As someone who perform as a profession, i held out with remedial exercises and injections to avoid undergoing a surgery. But even I became afraid as the condition worsens again every time I perform on stage. Three out of four doctors I had consulted with suggested a surget given my condition, so i made the decision.. (I though hard over it..!) Anyways, i'm sorry to the members for i won't be able to do the schedule with them for a while, and i'm sorry to ARMY. I myself feel bad about it too... Although I won't be around for the fastest possible recovery, i'll be back soon.
it won't take too long! I'm  sorry once again, and thank you ARMY!!

Wish him a full recovery.

My brother had a similar operation even if thankfully he didn't leave it be as long, less that a year between his first shoulder dislocation (I say first because it happened maaanyyy times) and the time the surgeon suggested the best and fastest way to repare and recover completely would be an operation.

He had to stay away from sport for 2 years and protect the big scar from the sun during that same period.

But now he's perfectly fine.

I only hope Suga will really respect his recovery time and won't rush it to make the fans happy.

yoongi being hurt wouldn't make fans happy. more importantly i don't see him rushing for armys tbh

bighit as company tend to follow medical protocols too. yoongi himself know how important his own health is for his future. which is mentioned in the statement.

from other people that have had similar surgeries, as long as he rest properly and keep doing his pt exercises, in a few months he will recover with very little to no pain.

His shoulder injury has been hurting him for what seems like forever. I'm so glad he's finally getting it taken care of properly.

Of course we will miss him but I really don't want to see him again until he's back at 100%, no cut corners on recovery!

My cousin is currently having same issues, it's been like 4-5 months and every doctor is suggesting him to get surgery. It can get painful and give the feeling of being uncomfortable with little pressure on shoulder. He's still avoiding surgery but he is aware that in the end that's the only option. Yoongi though, avoided it for so many years, glad to know that surgery went successful, wishing him a speedy recovery.

The amount of pressure that he must have felt before doing the surgery despite the majority of doctors telling him to do it for his health makes me incredible sad. I hope for his healthy recovery and hopes he takes as much time as he needs and not as much time as he things other people want him to have....
