Why is it unfair for....?

My sister recieved her electricity bill 2 weeks ago since then there have been some discussions among her friends & family. So her electricity bill was 70% higher than normal. My sister works all day for Sunday - Saturday so she not home most of time. Her bill was $10,000; normally it's $3000 or so.

Now, some people think it's fair because electricity companies had some losses over the pass few month. Others think it's not.

Why do think it's unfair? Or fair?

Is it only her or everyone else too? I'd contact the company for explanation.

There's no way customers have to pay for the loss lol.

Same thing happened to me for 3 months hence significant usage difference, and turned out our ac is at fault, after rechecking the reading and usage each months and found no error.

I can't imagine electric companies are charging 70% more just to cover their losses? That alone seems exorbitant, but 3k to 10k is actually a 333% increase...

Are you sure there's not another reason for it?

Sorry, I think should have put my country's currency. It's actually $26 - $75 in USD

Oh my lord I'm dumb. Excuse my American ass for assuming you're also American LOOL.

I think it's unfair if they didn't tell her they were going to increase it and if this is going to be a recurring thing for awhile. If it's a one time thing, she should be given the option to either pay that steep increase in one go, or pay a smaller increase monthly. If it's a recurring thing thing, she definitely needs to be told. I can understand why the company would want to markup the bills (although I can't say I agree with it), but this all depends on whether or not your sister was notified. Based on the fact that she called them and they still haven't gotten back to her and its been 2 weeks, I'm assuming the electric company didn't tell her, so to me this is extremely unfair. She should definitely pester them a bit more over the phone or go in person if possible?
