Yeah sometimes girl groups that change their images do ok but in general I think non fans listen to girl groups songs according to their mood. So for Twice people loved the bubblegum pop, Cheer Up and TT are exactly what grabbed gp attention and what they expected to listen to whenever they dropped a song, but the sound changed and I guess people didn't like their new sound as they liked their bubblegum pop. Yeah I know, unfortunately, even if rather than "didn't like their new sound" I sometimes feel like "they refuse to try", like you said they stay stuck on one thing/idea and won't budge, they're often so against "change" or variety (which is something that piss me off tbh). And because of it refuse to give a chance to many good songs. Maybe deep down they think that women (Twice) will always sound like cheerleaders no matter their age, and yet they can also be disliked if they keep the same concept for too long. oh well that's how you notice how fickle the GP often is. It happens I guess... Idk. Fancy was mature-ish and it was a hit. Not a smash hit like Cheer Up and TT but still a hit. There's also groups like A Pink that totally changed their concept and sound from cute/soft to mature/chic and are doing great so I personally think one of the reasons is that Twice is not that trendy for the GP anymore. The trendiest ggs right now for the public are Mamamoo, OMG and Blackpink. G-idle and ITZY are getting there too. Twice is still doing well anyway and I think they will probably rise when they start promoting because that's happened to them previously. People always underestimate what a fandom can do, but sometimes many groups have been able to chart well because their fandom have pushed their songs in the top 10-20 (which it's the case for 90% of boygroups with a big fandom and even for some girl groups) so since that's not possible now because melon doesn't have a real time chart anymore, it's more difficult or it takes more time for the GP to notice a song. Exactly, them not charting good is fault of no one in this situation. Song now requires good amount of promo along with variety appearances instead of only fandom, that's all. Then it's best to send Dahyun alone to as many varieties as possible so twice can have a gag member who can represent the group in every era but I think jyp would be VERY against that idea.
