Korean netizens are furious with Chinese K-Pop idols commemorating China's military involvement in the Korean War

On October 24th, many posts about Chinese celebrities celebrating the 70th anniversary of China's military involvement in the Korean War garnered wide attention on a popular online community forum. Among all relevant posts, the one revealing some of Chinese K-Pop idols have also endorsed China's historical negationism claiming China has fought with Korea against the U.S during the Korean War has gained the most attention.

More than 1000 netizens left comments reprimanding their actions and posted images conveying correct historical facts. Some of the comments include:

"Oh, what would they do if Japan said they have fought for liberation in Asia regarding the Nanjing Massacre?"

"They got rich and famous due to South Korea, and they help spread a blatant lie against us?

"Don't come to Korea if you support that kind of distorted historical record"

"(Inserts the below picture) How dare you say you helped us when in fact you invaded us helping the invader-North Korea"

"I wish they just left Korea"

"They're not doing Korean activities anyway"

"I want entertainment agencies to stop picking Chinese trainees."

Celebrities who reposted it were Lay, Victoria and WJSN's Chinese members

I didn't realize that the screenshots are in Hangul instead of hanzi lmao.

Also, welcome to china entertainment when celebrities are involved in politics and propaganda. And they and their respective companies to do 'small things' to gain brownie points from ccp 😬

thanks

because of this i'm going to assume these idols don't actually plan to promote much in Korea anymore.

they're doing great in china, so i guess they don't really need south korea's [or anyones] acceptance.

*sigh* I wish Vic would shut up about those issues 🤐 but I know she won't as it helps her in her career 🤦‍♀️ And like you said that's how it work in C-entertainment.

I love her but oh lord do she frustrates me sometimes.

by the way, doing things like this indirectly helps their korean groups and korean companies too

the so called rationale is the company and other members wouldn't support [friend] these idols if they disapproved.

that's the even bigger picture then just these chinese kpop idols trying to gain some extra clout in china.

the timing is quite interesting too with the whole bts incident going on right now in china.

their basically publicly picking their side.

That's what I thought too, I don't remember such celebration from previous years. That's why, I thought its a post they had to share (don't attack me, its bcs of the timing I'm thinking like this, nothing delulu) because I don't remember such posts beforehand. Maybe I just don't remember them T^T

I remember other problematic celebrations, but I never saw a war celebration. It seems more like collective effort to make people think about facts of the war differently that it actually was. Bcs it mentions Korea as a whole instead of sections, it makes it appear like they helped both sides instead of actual historical facts (which Chinese netz are aware of actual facts too) idk maybe I'm thinking too much

While true that's the purpose of the new movie released apparently....Honesty i don't think it's that deep for these c-idols. I feel they simply felt it was a good idea to make a supportive post due to the current situation. To avoid cnetz and/or potential backlash [in china].

However perhaps in this case, even Cnetz were not expecting this from them >< lol

Well... They (as in c-celebs in general) don't need anyone but their own people acceptance because damn population. With this and their mindset, it's kind of shitty to be its international fans 😬

There's no bigger picture here, because I guarantee most (if not all) of them will never even step foot in Korea again. Not already having been fired from their Korean groups is just a formality. Just look at Victoria. She chose to stay in China despite the rest of her group reuniting for performances. They didn't formally kick her out, but the writing is always on the wall.

Do you know why WJSN Chinese line left the group like 2 years ago?

They won in Produce 101 China. Meiqi was 1st place and center while Xuanyi was 2nd place and debuted as Rocket Girls members
There were plans for the 2 of them to promote in both Rocket Girls  and WJSN. However Yuehua tried to pull them out of Rocket Girls after a few months of promos accusing Tencent of overworking and unfair treatment.  Yuehua got backlash for that from both Tencent and cnets, so instead of leaving Rocket Girls, Meiqi and Xuanyi are not gonna promote as WJSN.

About ChengXiao, she's also busy with solo works in China. No need for her to go back

it's not about these c-idols ever setting foot in korea again.

that's why i said "indirectly" ... it's beneficial to the korean group and korean company in relations to cfan/china support.
