2015, J.Y. Park gave a special lecture to the trainees competing on Mnet’s ‘Sixteen.’

He started the lecture by saying, “I want my artists to be good people before being good singers. The standard of being a good person is one’s character – sincerity, humility, and honesty. These three are the most important”.

Then he went to explain about profanity. He stated, “Profanity! Especially a lot of young kids use it often these days. I used to curse at casual gatherings, but I changed my mind starting in 2010 and haven’t cursed since. If you used to curse, I hope you stop using curse words starting today. You have to be a person who doesn’t need to be careful of accidentally cursing. People say, ‘hey, you need to be careful with your words and your actions when being a celebrity.’ But be someone who doesn’t need to worry about that.” In other words, he told the trainees to be someone who has nothing to hide.

He then taught the trainees about ‘humility/modesty.’ He stated, “You have to be modest from the heart. I’m not telling you to be just good to your drivers who drive you or the stylist who puts clothes on you, but you need to be really thankful from the bottom of your heart.”

J.Y. Park stated, “You can be successful even if you’re not modest. However, there are times of crisis that come when living life. You need the help of those around you during those times of crisis. You can’t get out of the crisis without the help of others.”

He revealed that these three standards are what that JYP entertainment seeks in their trainees. He stated, “We seek people who have all three of these traits, so it’s tough for JYP to find artists.” cr

1. I think this applies to everyone in society

2. In this field, Park Jin Young is the best

3. This is true even if you are not a celebrity

4. He’s right, but I hate seeing Park Jin Young’s recent activities in Japan

5. It’s funny how the plagiarists pretend to be humbleㅋㅋㅋㅋ

6. But Park Jin Young’s kids can’t follow what he saysㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

7. So what are you doing, you can’t even protect your artists

8. Compared to SM and YG, JYP’s idols are angels

9. Why are you guys cursing at Park Jin Young? You guys hate him or you guys are SM stans

10. Why can’t people just look at the message in this post? I think he’s right ㅠㅠㅠㅠ

His message holds true. Having a respectable character and humble demeanor will take you farther in life. You'll have nothing to hide and there will always be people to defend you and help you in times of need like he says.

It's sad that other companies clearly don't teach or stress these values to their trainees and artists but I guess it can't be helped when profits are their main concern.

And yet one of his representatives rejected IU at her audition even though she literally possesses all three traits that are valued by JYP. At least JYP himself recognizes that the rep who rejected her was a bonehead, and it's better that IU got accepted into Loen (now Kakao M) because being a soloist really suits her best.

I don't like JYPE but what does that have to do with anything? Let's be honest, IU wasn't all that before debut. Even if she was in JYPE what would guarantee that she would be big?

I'm talking about her personality, the article said "We seek people who have all three of these traits, so it’s tough for JYP to find artists".

In the past IU was called "Melon's daughter" cause in 2009, Loen (IU's company) became responsible for Melon, and we know that at that time Melon chart was very important for any artist to be popular, especially soloists.

It probably wasn't that deep and they just weren't impressed with her vocals then. Wasn't it also her first and last audition? I imagine the character observation doesn't start until they become trainees. As much as I'm sure they've missed out on some amazing people, they've also most likely dodged a lot of bullets too.

no, she auditioned for several other companies, some of which were even scams that just took her money, before she got accepted at her current company.

You can't really judge character just through an audition. You need to see how people behave in the long run... Once in though you'll get scrutinized as a trainee and if you don't fit the company's personality standard, you just get thrown out.

The number one thing JYPE are looking for in people who audition is natural charm, or as JYP says, "star power". It's probable that IU didn't make that strong an impression when she auditioned, even if she obviously sang well and had the right demeanor.

So what does IU have to do with this? Once JYP said not being there for IUs audition is what he actually regret. And other time he said they reject/let go even talented kids who could do better with other companies because their style is too different from JYPE. 🤷
