The 28 year old man was recently arrested for murdering a woman after an attempted robbery. The woman was on her way home after finishing her part-time job at a convenience store. The man was found to be in hundreds of thousands of won in debt due to taking out several loans that were all spent on showering Afreeca BJs with hefty donations. He had been living out of his car when he decided to commit a robbery that eventually ended in murder. Netizens were upset to hear from the woman's father that she had been a hard working daughter who spent 5 hours working part-time before walking home for an hour and 30 minutes every day after to save money on transportation expenses.

Agree that what he did was awful but no one should be slut-shaming or insulting BJs in the comments. The Madonna-Whore complex is tired, and we can mourn the victim without using her to put down other women working for their living

I can understand fans buying albums and merch since they actually get a product and in most cases of merchandise, are useful (phone case, towel, tshirt). But for BJ donations? I'm trying my best to understand, it's really sad that he got addicted and went to the extent of robbery which led to murder...

It's sad. He obviously seems like he has problems and in most cases of people overspending on virtual shows, they find some sense of comfort and belongingness when they are being noticed by the streamer for their donations. I encountered many cases of withdrawal after not being able to donate/watch the said streams but it's my first time hearing about it inducing murder.

Rest in peace to the lady who was just working hard in her life. I hope she finds her paradise in the other world.
