It's 2020, they've been doing this for ages and all their biggest hits weren't SMP songs. The only possible answer I could come up with is the fandoms eat this up. I feel like it's just LSM inflating his own ego. The SM execs probably just want to do easy regular stuff for money but have to give in whilst sighing and rolling their eyes because their major stakeholder keeps on wanting to push his dated and stupid ideas stolen from Japan to feed his ego of being some sort of genius idol mastermind.
