[pann-choa] *TW RACISM* ADELE INSTAGRAM POST CRITICIZED BY INETS FOR "LOOKING DOWN ON BLACK PEOPLE"

bye-bye

Recommended Posts

People need to stop downplaying the issue like Americans or black people in general are really chill about it so it's all good. Just look into any thread where a KPOP idol spots cornrows (and there are tons), it's always been a mess. These people are a force to reckon with. And yea it's super fucking annoying because alot of it is a largely American issue and while I empthasise with it, there are many other issues that are more relevant to me. It's not like I actively partake in America's ongoing issue with black people or have any form of influence on it, be it positive or negative. I too, like the last comment, is kind of sick of this and think it might be better to just not touch or do anything associated with black people. But then again what do I know as an Asian? America exports its soft power and it's not like they explicitly label it black of non-black, you'll really never know when you step on the line. People get offended over anything these days.

Well literally no one on black twitter was genuinely mad over this, it was all jokes......

But on the topic of CA in general, I feel as tho both sides of the argument have become rather dramatic over time. People who claim CA may be making absurd claims and even speaking over those who have possibly  had their culture stolen/appropriated (moreso on Twitter as I've seen this nowhere else, literally, as someone said before you basing the entire fucking US off of teens on Twitter but I digress). And the other side leaps to crazy conclusions that these Twitter claims will actually result in other cultures being afraid to partake in African American or whatever culture. Like trust me, this is not gonna stop people from wearing braid, genuinely vibing to what Black people have created, and shit. Cancel culture does not exist. So I desperately need this narrative to end as it easily gives way to anti-blackness which is indeed harmful. I do not want my entire race being boiled down to a bunch of "snowflakes" because of a couple of Internet posts, we are not a monolith for the thousandth time.

It's not banned overall except for schools. But it's considered "unpleasant". Why do you think most of us get our hair creamed or straight before high school? It's not our people that comes up with this idea. Why do think we hate it? Do you think we suddenly get up & start hating our hair?

That's what I was asking about, for schools. Is it only banned for black students? Or everyone? And in public where it is not banned, I assume it is also the case for everyone?

Most people who do this have no ill intention. How is it cultural appreciation if they didn’t claim to have invented and just wanted to celebrate it? I’d have no problem if white people wanted to start eating with chop sticks.

just because people have no ill intentions does not mean it's okay. Black people are still being suspended from schools for their hairstyles, we are still being mocked for it. So how is it okay for non-Black people to use our hairstyles (that we use to PROTECT our hair from damage) while we're still being made fun of for it? While we're still being suspended for it? Even though we do not use them for aesthetics, the main reason is to protect our hair. I have had so many experiences of non-Black ppl mocking or making fun of my natural hair, asking me to straighten my hair bc it's prettier (while turning around and saying Black ppl wearing wigs or straightening their hair is cultural appropriation of white ppl. Even tho it is not) , being told braids were ugly and ghetto but NOW they want to use it for aesthetics? Yeah no. THAT is insulting. Do not ever compare your issues with our issues. Ever. You do not and are not trying to understand.

This is my issue with non-Black people, a lot of non-Black ppl (and white people) diminish our issues and brush us off as "sensitive" or "ridiculous" or compare your feelings with ours. If you are cool with white ppl using chopsticks then that is you. But don't try to get Black people to accept that same treatment, allow us to speak up for what we believe in and how we deserve to be treated instead of trying to belittle what we say. If you accept the bare minimum of "appreciation" while they still mock and be racist towards you then by all means, go right ahead but I refuse to allow Black people to accept that same treatment!

Oh boy, are there a lot of undercover racist clowns in this thread. Y'all probably the same ppl who pretended to care when the protests were going on too and posting the dumbass Blackout squares. Y'alls true thoughts come out when topics like this come up. A bunch of non Black people talking about how overly sensitive Black ppl are, questioning our experiences, trying to speak over our experience and feelings. Very interesting and noted.

It's majority teens and the adults that shout it came from tumblr like my friends that really shout it. In 2011, it really started there and those people are my age (30s) and boy do they still believe it. But now it's more so teens really pushing it now. So yeah it's a mixture.

The ones who say someone is biting off of black culture are not black, for example. My friends with dreads do NOT care if someone white has dreads. Hell, they love to see it.

Yeah if you go on r/AskAnAmerican and ask what they think about CA, the answers will be MUCH different than what you see on Twitter/Tumblr.

LOL really? Racist KKK ass reddit? 8/10 answers are from racist non-Black incels and maybe 1 real Black person and 1 Blackfisher. Y'all talking about most Black Americans don't care, why'd I have these conversations with my Black family and Black friends 10 years back when I was a child (w/o using the word "cultural appropriation") Mostly every Black person I have met has the same views. So what does that tell us??? *shock*  😮 either 1 of 2 things, we surround ourselves with similar minded people or the Black ppl, you may, have around you aren't telling you their ACTUAL feelings. Remember both things can be true. So that means you hang with racist people who do not care because *shocker* y'all don't actually care. Or your token Black friends don't fuck with you like that. Maybe both. Or maybe you don't have friends, wouldn't be shocked one of y'all is a 30 year old on a gossip kpop site. Big shocker!

and rananicolee, your friends with locs, DO NOT and will NEVER speak for Black people as a group. We are not a fucking monolith. They do NOT speak for me nor my family & friends. It's fine they have different views but you do not ever use them to shut down other Black people again and try to get us to shut up. This is why I do not share my opposing thoughts when it comes to Black ppl things with non-Black people bc y'all do this racist shit thinking y'all aren't racist. They'll shut down other Black people who have a "controversial" opinion or thoughts and try to use my *singular* opinion as means to shut them down. Could not be me and I side-eye your Black friends for giving you that confidence to do that racist shit. That is racist and I hope you are aware of that. The fact that you're pushing 30 or even worse, in your 30s trying to use your token Black friends to shut down other Black people's feelings and you DON'T see or understand why that is wrong, yeah go ahead and put on that white hood for me. May your friends escape from you and may you one day get off this site as a 30 year old.

Stay out of Black people's business and there wouldn't be no issues. Racist clowns. I hate y'all the most out of all racists. At least some ppl can say they're racist w their chest, people like you are cowards, you hide behind "innocent" opinions, dog-whistle, use micro-aggressions, and gaslight the FUCK out of Black people. GTFOH! Y'all got way too comfortable, stop silencing Black people and trying to belittle our feelings. Your Black friends, your "Black" online friends, British Black people, Jamaicans, etc all have their own issues and they can speak to someone about it and they can hold different opinions but what we won't do is silence Black Americans. We, especially, will not be silenced from non-Black racist assholes. So step your non-Black asses out these conversations. If you choose not to, I know a place you can kiss and where you can go.
