Genuine question : Is Melon still the most relevant chart in SK ?

I mean Lovelyz just cameback and with the reform of the Melon chart they didn’t chart (#31 without the reform, i don’t get it)

And they chart at #2 on bugs and #4 on genie which is actually great i think.

So how can we know if a song is doing well or not !? I’m lost

Melon is the most relevant chart because they monopolise the vast majority of Korean listeners compared to other platforms.

The fact that it’s now not easily manipulated by fandoms makes it even more relevant?

If a song is popular then it’ll eventually appear on the 24 Hits probably within 24 hours of release.

The old Melon real time wasn’t a good representation of a songs popularity. People who knew how the charts worked always looked at the daily charts any ways.

Melon USED TO BE the most relevant chart some time ago.

But, because it coddled the cheaters who came from nowhere and released unremarkable ballads which nobody listened but charted high , and Melon refusing to weed them out, it lost a lot of relevance.

Even now, it coddles the middle-aged OSTs in Hospital Playlist, and now SSAK3, so KPop fans are now dismissing it as an old person's chart.

According to iChart, here's the current market share of the various music sites:

Melon ×6 (about 40% market share)
Genie ×4 (about 24% market share)
Flow ×3 (about 18% market share)
Vibe ×2 (approximately 5-10% market share)
Bugs (base score) (less than about 5% market share)
Soribada (excluding aggregates) (less than 1% market share)

Thus, Melon is still the most widely used, but it's dominance has been declining over the past few years. I prefer using rankings from Gaon, since it aggregates data from all the major music sites.

Basically

Doing well on bigs and genie shows Lovelyz still have a fandom supporting them. Still mass streaming and dedicated

Has it been 24 hours yet? Nonetheless Melon shows public support.

Yes, it is. Melon still has the biggest number of users and has like 40% of the digital market in Korea. Genie is the second biggest with around 20-25% and then Bugs, which it's small but the third most relevant. Other charts (ie: Soribada, Vibe) are basically irrelevant and barely used.

And yeah, it's more difficult to chart with the reform since it's based in 24 hours unique listeners and not hourly streams like before, but still if you have a good amount of unique listeners you're gonna chart well, look at BTS, Blackpink, SSAK3, etc. Afaik Lovelyz always do well the first day with the real time charting but they barely chart in the daily chart so this is basically the same than the daily chart.

Surprised at Bugs. I thought it was the 3rd most important but it's only 5% of the market...

Basically melon and genie represent over 60% of the total digital market so I mostly check out those 2 to see if a song is really popular or not.

Lovelyz peaked at #90 on melon 24 hits, so it means the song had a decent amount of unique listeners but not enough to last more than a day. It's still top 200 in the daily chart of Melon and it's charting well in Genie and Bugs so it indeed shows they have a solid fandom and decent public support too. But obviously not everyone can chart top 10-20 like super popular groups like BTS, Blackpink, Twice, RV, ITZY, etc.
