Former SM Entertainment Creative Director Joins Big Hit Entertainment As CBO

Spoiler

Former SM Entertainment creative director and board member Min Hee Jin has joined Big Hit Entertainment as the Chief Brand Officer (CBO).

Big Hit Entertainment confirmed the news, explaining that she will be overseeing the brand as Big Hit and its related businesses undergo structural reorganization and label expansion. Not only will the agency expand its portfolio through a multi label structure, but they hope to solidify their branding through an overall reorganization process. She will also be the creative director to multiple labels other than Big Hit and is set to lead the debut of a new girl group. She will also launch her new label and bringing in new talent and produce music.

After leaving SM Entertainment late last year, Min Hee Jin has been receiving offers from various domestic and overseas agencies, but has made the final decision to join Big Hit. She stated, “I am happy but feel a lot of pressure about starting the second chapter of my career as a creator at Big Hit. While talking with Big Hit, I was surprised to learn that we share similarities in our determination to change the entertainment industry, our vision to expand the industry, and the future we see for the industry,” and “I am excited about the future I will share with Big Hit and its related businesses as we reorganize into a multi label system specializing in each area of business.”

Bang Shi Hyuk, the CEO of Big Hit Entertainment, stated, “Min Hee Jin is a leader of leaders who brought the concept of combining ‘Visual director’ and ‘planner’ to K-pop,” and “I am very happy to have an expert who leads the industry join us as we focus on contents and fans.” He went on to say, “We believe the knowledge Min Hee Jin has about branding will help give wings to Big Hit and its related businesses as we undergo restructuring. I’m excited to see what kind of innovation this forward-thinking creator will bring to K-pop with her own label.”

Min Hee Jin is applauded as the person who brought change to the entertainment industry by making “Visual directing” and “concepts” key terms in the business. While she was working at SM Entertainment, she opened up a new chapter in girl groups by planning concepts for Girls’ Generation, f(x), and Red Velvet. Through SHINee, she formed the concept “Conceptive,” while her work with EXO combined symbols and universe building, showcasing her abilities to create precise branding strategies for each artist.

Personally, I like big-ish groups so to me anything less than 7-8 would be kinda...empty (TxT is basically my exception of small group that I really stan) but Big Hit usually don't do big groups. Glam were 4 members, BTS are 7 and TxT only 5. Even i-land group are gonna be 7 too, so the new gg will most likely be 7 or 9 at most if they want a bigger group. I don't really see BH going for a +10 membered group tbh.

for some reason, five

i wonder how they will be promoted/labeled, like gfriend (source music's) or glam (even under source music, bighit's name prevailed)

at first i thought they would create a new label just for them

Bighit prevails thanks to haters. Once BTS blew up, some people used Glam as a way to drag BTS (and their company). Purposely ignoring that Source Music was over management while Bighit was mostly production. As a result of constantly ignoring SoMo, people forget about them.

They will probably be managed like any other Bighit group (loads of fan content lol)..plus the source music experience of keeping a girl group relatively successful and scandal free. The ex SM creative director is probably going to have the biggest impact on the group's overall concept and image tho.

Yea i've seen people say that too. Personally i say keep everyone under one roof. No need for even more labels. But we'll see.

people use them as a way to say "that's why bighit doesn't have female trainees... trust issues" too lmao when source music debuted a whole new girl group

although other artists known as bighit also worked as a joint with source music, i guess it's a mix of bighit's brand fame and the way they were promoted (?)

at first, especially after the mbc mess, i thought why keep labels if source has few employees and you could keep as a bighit division to take care of gfriend only and then same for the new girl group? it feels like the girls groups are labeled as "bighit artists" just for the bad things, but then pledis came and they have belift that is an actual joint, maybe bighit labels still trying to sort out how to work with these new acquisitions as a brand

i remember they claimed "hybe" and everyone thought it was a new label launched for the new cbo, but source probably made some type of agreement i think (if the rumors are true, source ceo and the new cbo worked around the same time and with the same groups at sm)

agree. seems like creating a division for gfriend in bighit would be ideal.  it could be bh/somu are trying to keep fans calm. people don't tend to to like big changes. so maybe things will "gradually" change with time. or not.

the new cbo is for all artists under bighit. if the claims about a separate label is true, once again i'm questioning why bighit is separating everything.

I prefer 5-6 but most likely 7.

The reason is, the girl group will mostly be produced by the ex-owner of Source Music, and GFriend was supposed to have 7 members. 2 of them ran away and only 1 (Eunha, who proved to be much, much equal than the other members) was replaced.
