I think Bighit is testing the water on what reactions and support a vietnamese trainee will get, and they got the their answer. Having a vietnamese member in a Kpop group could get big support from the country. Just as Dita from Secret Number in Indonesia.. I'm at peace with Hanbin likely not debuting. He already opened the door for future vietnamese trainees by joining a big show runned by CJ and Bighit, and I'm pretty confident we'll see a very talented vietnamese Kpop idol one day soon. Not to say Hanbin isn't but there are many who are levels above him. I'm actually surprised he went this far because it's not like they showed him a lot in the show. But he's a good dancer and a decent vocalist so if he doesn't debut here maybe he can be scouted in another company since he's still relatively young. At least he already has the support of many people (mostly Vietnam/SEA fans but a lot of fans from other countries too).

I agree, the right visuals (popular in Korea and internationally) is an advantage. e.g. One Knet in the OP sort of hinted this too. Plus look how out of all the foreign contestants K and even Nicholas were the most popular before the show due to their looks alone with global fans. During the show Nicholas popularity decrease due to lack of screen time and he simply didn't stand out much. Taki became the cute one. NIki and Hanbin, although some of the best dancers on the show were not getting much attention. However Mnet evil editing actually brought more attention to Niki. In a way, it sort of benefited him in the end. Edited August 19, 2020 by satoori

Hanbin is a cute boy and has decent skills but he's not a the level of visuals and skills of other contestants so if in future i-land seasons (or other survivals/groups/whatever) they introduce people with a higher level of skills and visuals they'd slay for sure. Like you said, Vietnam showed a pretty big voting/fandom power by making him pass to part 2 when he almost didn't have screentime. Also like I said many people from other countries supported him too.

Where did i excuse any statement or comments in my last post you idiot? Point them out to me instead of randomly casting judgment. Clearly you must not know how to read because this is a literal strawman. And if you hate Korea profiting off of other countries so much, the thing to do as a consumer is to not support them then? You want to support other asian countries? They have their own pop acts. Invest in their industries. Its that simple. Begging korea for representation when it is a country you do not belong to is acting ENTITLED. As a Thai person, i respect Korea's right to have to their own space. Every country deserves to have their own media represent their own people. Right now we have bigger things to worry about then whether a homogenous FOREIGN country is giving us representation. THe representation in my own country is horrible, colorist, and eurocentric, but no one cares about changing that (especially not you and your fake concern regarding SEA people). Thailand is home to so many half white celebrities but not a single dark skin celeb can compete with them. SEAs don't even put themselves first in their own media so expecting Korea to do it for them is ridiculous! FYI American singers visit asian countries all the time and make money and the majority of the american music market is still White/Black. So this isn't a logical argument you're making. American singers are designed to fit what america wants. Their global activities comes after gaining success in their home country. And yet again here you are bringing something IRRELEVANT to the convo. My last statement was in regards to the failure of Z-pop. so I won't indulge further in your last paragraph. Exactly. honey, not everything was a direct response to something you specifically included in your comment, but an addition of my ideas to the discussion as a whole. that's what this is, a discussion based thread on a fucking online kpop forum. but you clearly are so jaded and damaged inside that youre unable to even hold a conversation without making personal insults. forget onehallyu, you need therapy and maturity 101. did i press a button? oops. i never explicitly said you excused those statements, but my response was budding off from your comment where you said "I don't know why people are getting mad at koreans giving themselves representation", which suggested to me that you were complicit with the backlash over the non-korean trainees on the basis of their nationality/ethnicity. which i think was a valid conclusion to come to, given how you feel about everything else. i dont hate koreans profiting off other countries - i think thats fine. i just think its very elitist to think you can make money in other countries without giving the people in those countries the opportunity to participate in said business. i actually do support music and artists from those other asian countries i mentioned by the way. and im actually also part viet, and completely understand the problematic nature of the southeast asian and thai entertainment industries, and its nuances. accusing me of having fake concern and taking this conversation where you did was the strawman that you were looking for, lmao. it's ironic how you were trying to accuse me of randomly casting judgement but then literally did it to me. sigh. anyway. i dont think you realize that kpop has evolved into something greater than just koreans singing pop music. and when non-korean members are included in kpop groups, they also represent the intersection between korean culture and their adjacent culture, and so it isnt completely displacing koreans from their own cultural space. you can also support foreign trainees in kpop and support the artists from your own country at the same time. those things are not mutually exclusive, genius. im not going to continue this any further because i dont want to invest my time in someone that is very painfully obviously projecting their insecurities outward like explosive diarrhea. i hope you have a nice day sweetheart. All i did was criticize those who were acting entitled. People should treat non-koreans trainees in kpop as something extra korea does for the international fans but not a right they are entitled to. Kpop groups were design to appeal to the korean market and not only that but to also represent korea. The fact that they were able to make it on a global stage does not set a precedence of "oh now we have to include xyz from every continent". Korea isn't a multicultural country in the first place so that wouldn't make sense. Its like how the American music market does not have an asian pop star and thats only because asians represent such a miniscule part of the population compared to the other races (ie. it wouldn't make sense business wise). Korea have made it to this point without having to add any foreign member a majority of the time and the only time they do, its for a country thats actually making them a stable amount of money (china/japan). But this situation with complaining about inclusion in kpop, those who make an issue of this basically see themselves as inferior to koreans and are pressed for THEIR validation which in all honesty is a very unhealthy toxic mindset and you shouldn't support it. Lubbin 1,084
That’s why Mnet is BS to me whenever they push the “global group” concept. Because they’ll do everything in their power to make it to where it’s a generally Korean group no matter what Produce 48 was suppose to have a good mix of Korean & Japanese trainees. Mnet rigged it so that 3 at most made it (despite people knowing damn well Miu, Miyu, & Miho made the legitimate lineup) Produce X 101 pushed the “global group” concept, and was 100% Korean To Be World Klass was the biggest issue, because they heavily promoted the global concept & how this would be a group that targeted the world, but was 100% Korean when almost half the show was foreigners If Mnet’s gonna be like that, than they need to just be honest & make it look like it’s aimed as a national group. No one complained about Fromis_9 being all-Korean cuz they never pushed decaf global Group concept Cuz the whole market as a global group just to debut all Koreans bs is all cute to them until their groups struggle to reach the global success they wanted Side note, Mnet got a lot of balls to STILL rig shows after having a whole lawsuit & reputation
