Do you stan right away at debut. Trust the company, been following some of the members as trainees or their pre-debut activities (e.g. survival shows, etc.)

Perhaps you prefer to wait a bit? Give the group a year or a few comebacks before you decided to stan them officially?

Depends on the group and company?

How long do you tend to wait before officially stanning a group? 🤔

By "stan" do you mean adopt the fandom name? Because I've only done that for two groups and I've followed them both since debut

It's whatever stanning means to you. If adopting the fandom name is what you consider a stan, then yes.

Since kpop is a major hobby for me (like most people on oh I guess), I follow a lot of groups super closely and so it sort of needs to be super super closely for me to be a part of the fandom/a stan if that makes sense

I think following from debut gives me a certain feeling of attachment, and it's hard for me to get into a group or feel the vibe otherwise, even if I know the members really well and like all their music

I have to like the members, their songs (including their B-Sides), and like them enough to want to watch their variety and the like. Usually I have to like at least two comebacks for that. Because if I enjoyed the first and the second, I might as well stan, right?

But I don't stan groups that easily. I mean, I pretty much like most of NCT's releases, Monsta X, Up10tion, Blackpink's, and plenty of other groups, but I wouldn't call myself a stan of any of them. I'd say I'm a casual fan.

I completely understand. There's only a handful of groups i've stan throughout the years - although i follow and like many groups.

That's why i put "stan" since I consider it different then just an average "fan". I tend to give a group 2-3 comebacks before i make a decision. This gives me time to learn about all of the members and to also see if i like the direction they're going musically and concept-wise.

for bts - i've always been a fan since debut. but didn't start stanning till WOH era in 2014. Which was a follow up track on their 4th album.

I also forgot to mention: gotta be willing to buy the music. Whether physically or digitally (usually digitally since I only really buy physical albums for EXO).

Like for example, I feel like I'm at the point with Blackpink where most people would call themselves a Blink. But I've never bought any of their songs and I probably wouldn't so it doesn't feel right to say I'm a Blink. Not that you have to spend money to be a stan, that's just how it is for me. For all the groups I stan (except Rania/B.S. because I hate their company and want them out:donthinkso:), I've bought at least one song.

I usually wait a long time before stanning tbh. If I like a group's title track I keep an eye on them and if I feel like it I check out some b-sides too. Then I wait for a few more of their comebacks. If I like their comebacks I look more into them and then if I don't like their comebacks I lose interest. If a group doesn't have much content it puts me off stanning too tbh.

In Monsta X's case, I followed them since debut, but I only began properly stanning them since Shoot Out era. I really liked Jealousy and then after that Shoot Out caused me to stan.

I didn't pay attention to rv (my ult group) much but I knew they were talented and a good group so I liked them but didn't officially stan until like 2 years after I found them. for other groups I just can't stan at debut idk why but it takes a lot for me to full on stan a group and rv are the only k-pop artists who I stan fr right now and it'll probably stay that way for a while

agree. all the groups i've stan, i want to buy their albums or go to a concert. and i do. so i spend money on them because for me it's worth it.

It depends. Nowadays I'm stanning groups at debut more and more because I follow quite a lot of girlgroups predebut and already have my favorites. But when a group has already debuted I'm stanning when I'm emotionally attached to the group and when I feel like I know enough about them to call myself a fan. So it can take from a few months up to a year of following a group closely

It's different for me, i guess.
Because there are groups where I bought the song bc it's a bop but i'm not thrilled abt their performances.

I feel the same. I personally like to collect every album of the groups I stan so if I'm not willing to buy their albums then I just don't stan. Sometimes I don't, but that's because I'm broke, not because I genuinely don't want to.

Where is the "all the groups I stan debuted years before I discovered kpop" option 😂😂

I stanned as I was discovering them I guess.

The only money I've spent is a GOT7 concert. By that rule I only qualify as Ahgase when I currently dedicate more time to other groups.

I don't think you have to spend money to be a stan. Streaming is also important.

depends i guess.  some groups i discovered years after their debut.  others i knew about but waited a comeback before considering myself a fan

tbh i loved rocket punch’s debut so i was like YESSS maybe i should keep an eye on them but haven’t liked any of their titles since.  so i’m still not a stan

😅 yea that tends to be the case for many when discovering kpop for the first time. for me, that group was tvxq and kara. but now that you know about kpop. you'll be able to see groups debut. (e.g. purple kiss)

I really only been stanning groups where I could have an ult bias in it. I like a ton of groups, brought albums and such for many many different artists, but wouldn't call myself a stan at all. Just a casual fan or listener. I had this very bad habit to hype up a group but really like a member way more then the others, and it all changed when my ult bias left my ult group. I ended up still following and caring for all members in the end despite my ult missing and I found myself a new way of stanning in a sort.

Now I don't usually wait and see, I just stan whenever I discover the group and i'm interested in them right away. If no one pique my interest nor I feel the need to dig for more content, but I really like their songs and still anticipate new releases and buy albums that I like, then I don't consider myself a stan.

this has nothing to do with being "real". it's not that deep, for me.

the word and the concepts of a "stan" do exist. we all follow groups differently. so i was curious.

I mean I'll download music from anyone if I like the song, but that doesn't make me a stan, IMO~
