AOA's scandal just makes me become even more of a Kpop casual listener now...

As someone who got bullied in high school and has depression for 20+ years, I feel like I can relate so much to Mina's situation. I don't know exactly what's all behind this, but at least I sympathize with her.

Having read about AOA's scandal, I kinda lost faith in the Kpop industry. I mean I'm not really a hardcore fan by any means, but still felt hurt a little. What's happened to Kpop recently just makes me feel like I should just be a casual fan, for the sake of my mental health alone.

When we are fans, we tend to pick our favorite groups and bias. We see what we're supposed to see on public media. But we mostly likely don't know the truth behind the screen. This makes me wonder, what's the point of stanning my faves while I know nothing about them?  My bias could be angels, but they could turn out like another Jimin. Imagine AOA's fans who loved Jimin so much and it'll be heartbreaking when they knew how their bias turned out as a person.

I honestly don't know what I should be as a fan now. I love Kpop and want to support it, but at the same time I'm scared my mental health will be hurt even more. Sometimes I feel like being a super casual listener will be better for me. I won't have to care about the cool members, the fun variety shows, the beautiful MVs, the awesome stage perfs,... All those things will now be just music sung by abc xyz.

Sorry guys for all the rants in poor English, but at least I'm relieved I let it out. I'd like to hear your thoughts.

I feel you should do what's best for you. If being a casual fan makes you feel more comfortable and happy, then that's the right decision ❤️

You're right, part of being a stan is putting a lot of faith and trust that these artists are showing their true selves.Personally, I don't use idols as my life line. Yes if one of my favs turns out to be evil I would be upset, but I also wouldn't have a problem dropping them and moving on. In the long-run, it's not going to affect my health or mental state. I mean, that's pretty much with most humans we meet in this world. One can never really know what people are hiding. But I can't go through life being paranoid about everyone I meet. It's not healthy, for me.There has to be a balance.

I think every fan needs to realize that we will NEVER know who our faves truly are. We might think we have an idea but we will never who they are as a person. What they show us is what they want to show us.

I used to stan my faves for who they showed their fans. I used to follow everything that SuJu and Bigbang did until I stanned SISTAR and I didn't care about their personalities. I strictly like their music and it's so much easier to stan a kpop group for their music. I might follow some of my kpop faves on instagram but I really could careless about "getting to know them" anymore.

I do the same with my metal faves if I haven't spoken to them before. I've spoken to members of lamb of god, slipknot, hatebreed (the vocalist knows who I am) and other bands so it's different and they could care less about putting on a front to save face.

TL;DR: We don't know our faves. Let's stop acting like we do.

I learned one thing when I was a kid. Our Heroes would never be treated as such if we knew all the behind the scenes. And this apply to sportsmen, singers, idols, actors, models who ever the heck we stans.

And seeing the past 5 years all the scandals from all the people I used to look up to when I was a kid, the only person I can truly defend and vouch my life for is MYSELF. (I know it will be controversial but not even family should be included, you don't know what they do when you are not around them). Which is why it's super important to love and appreciate yourself, but also treat yourself the best you can.

"idol" in Pop culture is just a job all those celebrities who address their fans with all the Beautiful words and cliches is just part of the job I mean it's okay if someone gets inspired by an idol or any other celebrity just don't take them too seriously those idols are not gonna be there for you to hold your hand and get you out of your misery when you need them.

just look at them from entertainment perspective and as a fan/consumer like watching your favorite TV show and it's just that a TV show nothing more nothing less.

It's dangerous to get too emotionally attached or create unrealistic images of idols (or anyone, really). You don't necessarily have to skip out on variety shows, MVs etc if you enjoy them but just being a casual listener isn't too bad either. Do what brings you joy without increasing the risk that you "burn" yourself.

We have learned from the incidents of the past that KPop is a sea of sharks, where the weak gets devoured.

It is hard to be objective if you stan an act, but as time goes on, casual KPop fans get to just listen the music and ignore all the Renaissance style intrigues and backstabbings.
