How long does a drama normally take to get subbed?

Recommended Posts

i used to sub dramas and vids. being novice subber, it took our team average of one week per episode (one hour length). but professionals with machines make it for about 4-5 hours. chinese translators are way too fast.

process: translating->editing->downloading (raw materials)->video cutting->encoding/subtitling->converting/logo->uploading

fated to love you took less than a 12 hours for it to finish subbing

by the time u wake up the next morning

subbed version of that drama is already available...

though i'm not sure about the drama that u want to watch

depends on how popular it is i guess

Depends on the popularity and who is subbing. Super popular = less than a day. Dramafever takes one day unless it's The Heirs or something. If nobody picked it up/it's not popular, then week(s)

Oh and also I think they take more time for dramas with legal/medical etc terms, like 2-3 days...

Aw is that this week? It depends where you watch tbh.

Viki - same day for popular dramas. That week most dramas.

There's this one drama i'm watching and NO site has a license for it and I have to download fansubs from a private subbing forum and use a korean torrent site for the video file. That one takes forever and I only recently realised that's a thing!

Luckily, tvN are usually licensed on viki (fansubbers > professional imo) so likely the next day. There are no major idols/actors in that drama right?

It's depends on popularity with ifans. If it's popular then expect it be done by a day or less. If it's not popular then it's can range from couple days to weeks to even months. I once watch a drama that took a whole year to be subbed.

If it get picks by drama fever, it would be subtitled within a day. If fans subbed it, I wouldn't know the exact span........ you should patrolling in d-addicts from time to time

This is my problem with Japanese drama because it seems all of them relied heavily on fan-subbed, there's one that the subber decided to drop......  :rlytearpls:  (makes me want to study Japanese)

Fortunately, major station's K-drama subbed within a day

Depends on who's in it. If there's a member from a popular group/popular actor, mere hours (esp for chinese subs. eng subs take forever in comparison and some series don't even get to see the light of the day)

Basically for dramas that get traction: 1 day for fast subs, 3 days or more for HQ subs (more accurate and with additional translation of things not spoken like road/company/door signs or whatnot).

Nugu dramas: 1 week to never.
