^ it's ok. i liked So In Love a lot more. She's really pretty in the MV though.

for more cantopop stuff, Fiona put up a lyric video for a new cheery summer type song

lol at the fun awkward half-assed video. I like the song. More high kicks Fiona!

Yeah So In Love was definitely more fun, but I just love ballads. :lub:  Yep, I like that lyric video too, makes me want to go to Australia!

I thought this was a cool video. G.E.M encouraged her fans at her concert to download a glowstick app instead of creating waste by using plastic glowsticks, the result looks pretty good! I wish I could have gone to those HK concerts. I really hope she brings it to Europe!

I just saw a new MV from 泳兒 Vincy, the song's called 我自在 / I Am Free, her new album is going to be out soon too, here's the Yesasia link Vincy Chan - Free. I think her voice is so good, I'm really looking forward to the album.

Also, I can't recommend 陳å¦å¸Œ Michelle Chen's album Me, Myself and I enough, I'm a little biased since I love her as an actress already but I think it's really great. Just to be fair, here's the Yesasia link for it too Michelle Chen - Me, Myself and I  There's a new lyric video for one of the songs from it called 直覺 / Intuition:

the only Vincy song i heard before was her cover of Mika's Yuki no Hana.

Oh she has so many good songs imo, obviously ballad heavy like most HK artists but I love her music. She's trying to be a little more adventurous music style wise recently though. Here's some of my favourite songs from her, I'll put it in spoiler to save space on the page lol.

and I just saw é¾èˆ’漫 Sherman Chung released a new lyric MV for her song Everlasting. Finally my favourite singers are starting to release songs again! The last few months felt so boring in Cantopop. The song is totally great too.

pretty voice. i'll check out more of her.

I really like Sherman. Must be busy if she's releasing new material already after releasing a mandarin and cantonese album last year. Has Sukie ever released an album?

idk i've been listening to more canto stuff than mandarin this year because it was so slow. But stuff is picking up now with Coco's and Vanness's albums. AGA is pretty cool though if you listened to the video i posted. And she really sounds like Janice in her other video:

Yeah I like AGA too, I can see the similarites to Janice's voice in that video. As for Sukie, tbh I didn't even know Sherman had a sister until you just mentioned her lol. It seems she released an album in 2010, you can hear some of the songs here http://music.10086.cn/newweb/zq/2010/zsq_byy/zsq_byy.html

Added a photo section for you all ^_^

 Great!

I knew her cuz she covered one of my favorite song of Jay's

The link wasn't working but I found one of é’花瓷 / Blue and White Porcelain, is that the one you mean? It's really good. It's one of my favourite Jay songs too, but she really makes it her own.

i forgot to say how much i'm loving Olivia Ong's album. Really good.

Yeah, I agree. It's excellent.

Also, I only just saw this other song from è¬å’Œå¼¦ R.Chord called

, it was released a while ago so I'm pretty late to the party so to speak, but I like it a lot. His style has changed so much, compared to his early music style and look he's like a completely different person.

Ohh  sorry about that! T-T But yeah I really like the cover as well, it has her own style to it :D and woot, are you a jay fan? :D

yeah! He's great, super talented, I like almost every song of his.

Spades!~ <3 Thank you so much!~ Are you a Nick fan? I know he popular in Taiwan, but im not sure how popular he is.

I heard about him from his song with Jolin called Real Man, so considering Jolin's popularity I'm guessing some other people might of heard of him that way? His last album went to number 1 on the G Music Taiwan chart too so I'd say he's pretty popular. I've never listened to much of his music but I really like this song from him:

and does anyone think he looks like Will Pan sometimes? lol

and the first one I heard from then called 欲走無路 Going Nowhere. Pretty awesome songs!

i actually find her a little weird looking some times.

I was going to make a thread for it but the actual FHM Taiwan page wouldn't load their individual pages, so i couldn't get pics for the top 10. I'll see if it works now.

yall hating on my PuffPuff  -_-

edit:

well the site works now but i don't like the pics for the ones in the top 10 that i clicked on. Maybe i'll look for my own pics and do it depending on how lazy/bored i am today.

lol that's why these lists are so silly, everyone's tastes are so different, I think it's impossible to have an answer on who is the best looking and in what order that everyone agrees with. They're all pretty to someone.

Hey Lightning i listened to Vincy's new album. It's ok. I need to listen to it a few more times but i wasn't too impressed with it.

I was really happy when i heard the first song and then disappointed that the rest of the album sounded nothing like it.

Want more of this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LOwQxBi4stY

and wow EEG's official youtube channel (eeghkmusic) uploaded the entire album. Same with Charlene's, Gillian's, and other people i don't listen to. But that's pretty cool of them to do.

Yeah I understand, it's definitely a problem for artists like Vincy or Janice, they want to try different genres but the record labels are reluctant to let them stray too far from their staple sound. Luckily I like the kind of boring aspect of HK music of ballads and slower songs, so it doesn't bother me too much, but I think if they could be allowed a little more variety or freedom with musical style it wouldn't be a bad thing.

I noticed that with EEG, it's a good idea. I mean, most people will upload it themselves anyway, so to do it on the official channel with a proper lyric video is a better option, and then they can link to ways to buy the song. I think EEG are 10X better now than how they used to be, when they only put short MVs up like Jpop. This way is much better to get their artists' music out there.

I really like this song from sodagreen

Though the trans for the second track's name is quite unique. It should be "My Territory" - lol. Which reminds me, there's one song with that exact same title, can't remember who's the artist for the moment  :wth:

Keeva Mak is finally making her return to the HK music scene (her new album is out in about 1 week exactly!) so I thought I'd share her lastest MV

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QWaNubzLLCY

and Shiga Lin has released a DVD of her concert with a photobook. Here's one of the performances, I just wish it came with a CD.

Also I finally got round to watching 'The Grandmaster' with Tony Leung. I have to say I was kind of disappointed and I wanted to see more of Chang Chen as well.

Thanks, I like the song from Ivana. She always makes good music.

Has anyone (maybe xinxin lol) read any info about Leehom's new movies? I saw on his facebook he talked about being part of a new superhero movie and I read he's in a movie with Chris Hemsworth but I can't find much info about them?

about tw or hk actors going to China, I understand the money on offer is way more but like the article hints at, in the long term you'll have more money but a resume of bad quality or badly reviewed dramas.
Hopefully the new production companies will improve it, but for now I enjoy many more hk or tw dramas than ones from mainland.

Hemlock, maybe you can watch love in disguise, has Liu Yifei and Wang Lee home. It's lighthearted but fun.

anyone else excited for any new releases coming up ? I think by the end of September we'll have new albums or EP's from Sodagreen, Tanya Chua (which I'm looking forward to most), BY2 , Populady, Sherman Chung and Kay Tse, who has a greatest hits and new Mandarin album being released. I think it's a nice little period for Canto or Mando pop fans.

Also did anyone else like Joey Yung's latest album ? I haven't been on here much over summer so apologies if I missed it but I thought it was really good.

iirc alan wasnt eliminated, she left the show after a disagreement over the direction the advisors on the show wanted her to go in. I do agree about established singers going on shows like that, but her career has took a serious nose dive in the last few years so I guess it was an attempt to try and reignite it, I really like her voice and the albums she released already so I wish she can be more successful in the future.

i listened to the first half so far. I think we're the only 2 in here that listens to canto stuff...

Sherman's album was kinda meh to me but I like Tanya's album.

Thats so sad. Surely there are more English speaking Canto pop fans somewhere, I know its not everyone's taste but it still has a lot of good songs and artists, as long as you dont mind it being ballad heavy, but that's the same with mando pop anyway.

Also, I saw the promo pics from Show's new album in his artist thread, really looking forward to see how things go now he's with Sony. Oh and I cant wait tonget Jolin's concert dvd either, thats been so many years in the making haha. It was criminal that someone of her stature in the music industry hadnt recieved the full concert dvd treatment yet. I hope it was recorded well.

understandable thoaccidentdopop isn't that popular either and that is much easier to get into than cantopop. It's also more diverse. I admit it took me a while to start liking cantopop. I gave up a few times and it wasn't until i found G.E.M that i really started to like it. It was a big help that she did both languages and that she did some upbeat music too.

I've read from multiple places people complaining about current cantopop but i can't really tell if it's legit or if it's just the usual "older music is better" type stuff.

currently listening to Fiona's song about her kitty that passed away. Poor kitty...and Fiona.

Yeah, I know, theres not so much good upbeat music in Cantopop. Its there but definitely not in the same league as upbeat Mandopop, which itself pales in comparison to other music markets too.

Well, I think its a mix of both. Theres no doubt that there is the nostalgia aspect forming part of the criticism, but its also true that Cantopop isnt as lucractive as it was before and so isnt attracting the same quality of people to produce and write songs or making the same stars, even its most popular young singer G.E.M makes half Mandarin half Canto albums to appeal to Mainland and Mandarin countries more since thats where the money is. The same can be said about the HK movie industry, which while it still has the ability to make a good movie, is not in top form.

That said, I still like a lot of singers from HK and think there is a lot of good music to be found there, just wish it could find a few more young stars to give it a new boost of popularity and attract some attention from other music fans.

I've only slowly started to try to get into mandopop. Hemlock helped me a bit with a thread of mine a while ago. But even then I think it's harder to scour the internet for easy an simple info just because artists come from more countries so it's a bit harder. But when you find something good its worth the effort.

I can totally get that feeling too, theres a few singers ive found my accident which i then went on to become big fans of and then some where i heard a song and spent ages searching before finally finding it and the singer. I wish it was easier to find up to date info on newer releases too. Edited by Lightning
