Does anybody feel like the kpop fandom has run away without them?

I am the same age or younger as many kpop fans but I can't get into twitter or instagram and it feels like thats where most people are. I feel old lol. Do others feel disconnected. (cue my bitter mumbling about how I miss 2015-2017). I am not great at the fast paced reference based fandom stuff but I wanna talk to people about kpop!!! Anyway I have not been active since school has been hard to figure out right now with not being able to leave my house and whatnot but I am i'm back!

i'm on twitter so i don't feel that way tbh.

although i don't talk much with people on twitter but simply being surrounded by the fandoms and activity I still feel apart of the community^^

Yeah the issue I think is that I can't figure out how to join in??? like people don't interact like they do on forums but I never know what to say or what hashtags to use. Do you notice tons of fanwars?? I keep seeing them when on twitter so maybe that makes be feel not negative towards the platform.

it took me so long to get into stan twt even when I had acc before

actually you need to be soo active there to feel connected or have lots of friends other than that it might be hard

Yeah it seems that way. I have had my account since 2016 but I am not super active so that might be an issue.

i agree it's hard having discussions. the set isn't really made for long ones, in my opinion. even worse trying to debate lol (it's best to avoid that~!)

basically i'm constantly liking and retweeting other people tweets.

for me, i started off following official accounts first. then searched for popular fanbases. after that on the side twitter will recommend accounts to follow. that's helpful. i would follow people with profile photos with my fandom (mostly jimin in the beginning). as you start following people those people tweets and retweets will show up on your timeline. from there you will learn about other users and fanbases/translators/etc that you might want to follow. with time eventually you will unfolow people too lol. basically you'll slowly create yourself a bubble to your liking. i say give it a try. if you don't like it then delete^^

that's true

also you need to know the "big" account of your fandoms that do often update or translate things if you're there for those staff and tbh it was hard at first to find them but slowly I kinda get into that

Ever since I left stan twt I've been feeling that way, but I also feel a lot more relieved and I don't regret it. Plus I got tired of the stan twt jokes real quick. Now I just follow official accounts and a few fan accounts. Forums are a lot better to interact with people tbh.

I work better in forums stan twt relies alot on drama and reference based jokes from what I have seen and it's a bit much for me. Some of my feeling left out though might be from realizing so many stans follow newer groups I don't know much about. I listen to tons of music from 4th gen groups but don't really stan many from 4th gen. Glad forums are still here I have just noticed how so many people have gone to twitter.

it's kinda hard to find your place on twitter sometimes, you have to kind of make that first effort of interacting with people you follow by replying to some of their tweets and, with time, you'll find yourself regularly interacting with a certain group of people which can feel quite nice but it's also a bit draining tbh. i prefer forums and really wish more people got into them

also, yeah, fanwars are craaaazy on twitter and there's a lot of hostility there so it's easy to get wrapped up in that negativity. i used to be very involved in that when i was like 15, i was constantly bickering with others and defending my faves from any random person but nowadays i just stay out of things like that because it's not worth the trouble. some people just wanna hate for the sake of it. if you surround yourself with users who prefer talking about their favorite groups' content rather than fighting others you'll be able to have a good time

i'm much more relieved now that i just use twitter mostly for quick info and to retweet stuff i like. kpop stan twt life is way too stressful :rlytearpls:

My Twitter timeline is pretty peaceful cause I don't simply just follow people or do the mutual followings. I only follow if they consistently tweeting and talking about things I want to see (like updates and pics) and people that I already know (virtually or irl) or met in real lifeㅡ so I don't get much of the toxicity from Twitter, so most of the time I can't relate to those fanwars.

On the part of being old, you'll be surprised how many older people are here tbh lmao but well, I hope you find that comfort space for you to talk about your faves!

Also, welcome back :lovestruck:

I can totally relate!

I can't use stan twt for personal reasons, but while I was on it, the way the tl moved was just a little too fast for me. I primarily use onehallyu and Tumblr, but they've both definitely died down in usership since 2016 and 17 (I'm really nostalgic for this time period too, but it might just be because I had so much time to give to kpop!).
