Why isn't anyone complaining about the "overdone" girl crush trend?

Cause everyone complained about the cute and innocent trend around 2015-2016 and look where we are now. The girl crush concept is even more overdone nowadays. And no one seems to be complaining.

I will forever be pressed about this fact, how kpop changed path so drastically tbh. It made me way less interested in Kpop after almost 10 years of being a stan. Not necessarily "against" girl crush concept, but I remember how people said school uniforms hurt their eyes back then, and now we are clearly seeing as much girl crush as we saw cute back then. It's just... overdone.

Spoiler

What makes me most pressed is knowing how most girl groups had their first or biggest hits with cute and innocent concepts. There are ones who didn't but they are way less in number, and nowadays that everyone does girl crush concepts, most ggs are extremely weak digitally compared to what they were, unless they have their company's brand like BP. Why would they change kpop's path and ruin their potential as digital sellers.

Personally I don't mind girl crush concepts, my problem is the new "teen crush" concept or whatever its called that got really prominent at the first half of this year.

Also missing sexy concepts, seems like they died down completely. Overall variety is best tbh it's good if there are multiple concepts going on.

I don't mind girl crush. However I too think it's overdone and many groups don't do it well.

I also don't like how the concept has sort of became a default concept for some companies when groups are struggling.

I prefer experimenting with other concepts like elegant, fun, mystical, and etc.

True...

Also the mis-used of chanting in songs too. It's overplayed and it irks me hearing it randomly in some songs. Just add a singing verse or nothing (let the instrumental fill it in)

Some kpop fans say it's better because of "empowering", "bad bitch", "pseudo-feminism". Cute concepts are bad for women, while the majority of kpop fans mainly cared about boy groups and their "talent" and "music".

But most boy groups have been doing the same fuck boy concept for ages and nobody seems to have any problem with that.

oh god the random chants are my biggest nightmare, ruining so many songs

I used to complain about it all the time, but now teen crush is more popular and while i don't necessarily like it I don't hate it neither. Or at least i'm not sick of it like I am with girl crush since teen crush is a relatively new trend.

Honestly the few "cute" girlgroups that are debuting nowadays are the reason why i'm still invested in kpop. I've been a kpop stan for 9 years and I know that once SRG will debut, I'll probably stop caring about kpop and only follow groups I already stan (which, for most of them, are going to be less and less active)

yeah, it is being overdone these days, it seems like there's been a big shift in the industry. i'm tired of people and media making it seem like girl crush is somehow superior because of feminism, a softer concept can easily be empowering too if you approach it well.

but overall, i'm getting tired of putting girl group concepts in either "cute" or "girl crush" category. it seems like people reduce girl group concepts to such basic ideas while a lot of boy groups have the same exact themes for their comebacks and no one bats an eye. i hope more ggs get to take on concepts that don't neatly fit in just one box in the future

BLACKPINK and Westerners obsession with them and perks that comes with it like charting on Billboard did that.

All in anyone in the West cares about are girl crush concepts, and the only reason non girl crush groups are getting noticed is because they're in the Big 3 like RV and TWICE

Because it's unpopular opinion and it only means you dislike it when women are empowering themselves

I don't mind any concepts, but everything done too often would cause boredom.

I don't even think of girl crush as women empowerment. Empowered by.... certain style of outfits? Cause most girl crush songs have an average love song's lyrics. Very few of them are related to women empowerment but... well some few songs with cute or sexy or any other concept have those empowering lyrics so I see no difference.

I don't care as long as I like the song.

That's a good point, as a very visual person, first thing which attracted me to Kpop was the aesthetics of MVs that I loved, such as Oh from SNSD. So I mostly joined for the visuals and listened to western songs if considering music solely. But even music wise, so many girl crush songs have these drastic weird drops or noises which I dislike.

i like all concepts but it is just awkward when a grown woman act like a child

I hear this a lot as well, and some idols seem to hate it but there are some which still naturally do it even after they grow up, even if their group's concept is nothing related to cute, you see them enjoy themselves being cute in a fansign. Also not all cute/innocent concepts seem forced to me. For example Gfriend's love whisper or Oh My Girl's SSFWL seemed quite natural to me, even objectively.

People talking about Teen crush concept.. is there any example of that cause I didn't even know it was a thing?..

And I just like the song regardless of the concept, concept is just a bonus. However Kpop always gonna be about trends.

I think because of my age I guess but I think ITZY are still cutsey I guess because of their personalities but especially Yuna still acts cute to me in every song.

Lmao idek either. Maybe they're talking about how it's delivered? As someone above said people act like other concepts don't have good lyrics.

Idg why people keep pushing this narrative. Bgs are literally dragged all the time for doing "generic dark/cool guy concepts", especially in stan twitter, while girl crush is actually overpraised when both are the same thing.
