I dont think it's overdone at all. 3ye, Red Velvet, GWSN, WJSN, Apink, Gfriend, Twice, Blackpink, Momoland etc all came up with different concept/music this year imo. Surely most are empowering, but it's not just the typical noise people attach to girl crush concept. I'm pretty sure this is categorized as cute, not girl crush: 

The only girl crush concept that was truly UNCALLED for was Loona's So What. That was a big ass shit stain in Loona's flawless discography.
