OneHallyu Will Be Closing End Of 2023 ×

Nate will no longer have comments on their entertainment articles beginning July 7th

I think this is overall a good thing. Celebrity and entertainment articles rarely provide any pertinent information in the comments. It will be harder to gauge how people will feel about certain things but the comments generally did more harm than good.

That is cool. I wonder, what this triggered by something? Like some controvery? Or they just randomly decided this?

after naver got rid of its comments nate become a bigger cesspool than it ever was. The commenters all push false ideologies and lies that start to blow up

I forgot it's a thing lol.

Nice movement, bc usually comments entertainment sections aren't worthy. Of course there are a lot of positivity but vile posts usually stand out. Poor NB and co though.

(And before things escalate, I hope people understand that pann is a forum like OneHallyu, that threads/"articles" can be made by literally everyone and their lazy dogs.)

Naver decided to abolish comments on their entertainment news article after Sulli and Hara's passing because both of them got relentless hate and I guess Nate is following along now.

I want to be hopeful that this will bring good, but I now worry about whether these commentators are going to more infiltrate other existing user-interactive spaces, such as Twitter. I fear their increased presence as a result of this closure is going to make spaces more unusable than it already is.

It is true though that NB is predominately a cesspool of hatred; a churning cycle of relentlessness. I'd even go as far as to argue that their 'posts', along with their manipulative selection of (negative) comments from Naver and Nate respectively, have increased the duration and extent of the psychological damage for their readers and targetted celebrities. Besides, they do not provide value or food for thought. The fact this has carried on for years is concerning. I still do believe that the presence of sites like NB should be minimised and not be actively promoted.

But that seems hard to do, even here…
