Silent Dawn 771
English is my second language too so who am I to judge. But it bothers me sometimes when Super easy words are mispronounced. Prime example is ITZY's It'z Summer. I don't understand why Ryujin said Whatch-up instead of What's up , and Yeji pronounced PARRY instead of Party? I mean they are super easy to see and learn. I'm surprised Ryujin can speak English very well but she mispronounced that word so incorrectly. I guess that's the composer's intention?

yonderie 519
It doesn't bother me if they're just talking or singing live, but I feel like it should be pretty easy to look up how to pronounce words when you're recording a song idk...

Exactly, when speaking or singing live you might make mistakes and that's okay. But a song was composed, fixed, practiced and sung, how the heck did they not bother looking up how to pronounce the words? Zimzalabim 46
well ryujin saying whatchup makes sense because that's how "what's" would be written and said in hangul, like whatchu while it is pretty easy to look up what they sound like, it's harder to get rid of the tendencies your tongue has to just say things the way you do in your own native language, especially overnight. I can go to google translate and listen to what a word sounds like in any random language, but if I try to say it will it sound accurate? most likely not and what might seem easy to you might not be so easy to others
Thatoneuser 3,226
I empathize because for English is actually my third language BUT that being said since I learned it and I can pretty much pass without any distinct accent I do judge from time to time. Ddeona Oneul Bame 61,624
Sometimes they do it on purpose just because it sounds more pleasing to the ear Well known example is EXO pronouncing "Wolf" and "Cheese" perfectly fine in the demo but somehow miraculously forgetting how to say them and going to the Korean pronunciation in the final
Irene 10,554
It doesn't bother me. I think words being 'easy' is a relative thing. Especially if it's not your native language. Some letters don't exist in certain languages, some sounds can't be pronounced easily etc. Those 'mistakes' don't seem very bad. People say the same words differently sometimes

DiSsOrGaNiZeDsUsHi 353
Not really. What's easy on paper may not be so easy when said and what is easy to some people may not be easy for others. English is not based on phonetics so even native English speakers have difficulties pronouncing words that should be "easy".

spopo 2,003
It's important to remember that the English words aren't being spoken or sung for an English-speaking audience--it's for a Korean audience. I remember that clip a few years back on some variety show where the hosts were "testing" Wendy's English spelling, and so they had her spell some English word. She went through it quite quickly, but they couldn't understand her, so she had to respell it with Korean-accented English, even though it was technically less correct. For understandability, as well as certain aesthetics (as others have mentioned itt), proper pronunciation becomes much less important. iKnife BurnCat 1,729
LOOKIE LOOKIE No, but even English singers don't pronaunce words corretly, some mumble cuz it floats better in a song. It's the other hand when they speak and mispronounce, but it doesn't bother me that much.
deliriousness 2,008
I don’t care because it’s for Koreans primarily. If it were a song for the English-speaking market, I would expect the pronunciation to be tighter. Edited June 23, 2020 by marin karin
lighterxx 12,204
I dont really care, as long as meaning behind is still fine after misunderstanding, its ok to mispronounce. Like in Hit they say "We are so hot" and i keep understanding Hot as High lol
gummybear_dragon 1,695
Honestly yes, especially if they only have three words to say in english lol. If it's a rap then I'll give them a pass.
