A random stranger flipped me off for no reason. WTF?

Today when I was parking outside my garage and about to leave my house, a random teenager walking nearby came up to me and he said something I couldn't hear (my car windows were up), I was assuming he's asking for money or a ride, but I didn't think I could give him either of those, so I just smiled and said no.

Then he flipped me off, for 10 seconds, before he walked away. WTF is wrong with him? Did I do something wrong that upset him? I don't know what he requested me but I had no obligation to do whatever a total stranger asked for, unless I did something wrong in the first place. I was mad and I flipped off back at him, which was a weird thing to do but I was in a really bad mood.

I know a random stranger is not worth losing sleep, but It's still bothering me thinking about it. I never had someone do that to me before. Do you think my actions were wrong? I'm more worried because he might live nearby. Don't wanna see him again.

You didn't do anything wrong. Someone once asked me for money and I usually give but had none that day and he insulted me so much and stalked me for a while. It stresses me out these type of situations. You should be careful. People are losing their calm fast lately.

Regardless of what he asked, you should never feel there's something wrong with you based on other people's reactions. Some people are just unbalanced and looking for trouble, unfortunately. Best way to react to these type of situations imo is to remain calm, breathing slow and with a poker face, as if watching a child throwing a tantrum, which is almost the same thing. Don't take this type of stuff personally and avoid interaction, as if that's nothing related to you - and in fact, it really isn't, even if the other person wants to blame you for that.
