News headlines have reported Detroit has gone into bankruptcy. Until now, nothing compares to seeing these stunning pictures before and after the bankruptcy of our once great Motor City, as captured by Google Street View.

Reddit user Scarbane, compiled these captured photo images, taken every few years of the same location – and the dramatic changes witnessed are remarkable.

Most pictures taken from 2007 - 2013

Detroit is a national embarassment.

A great city that led the Auto-Industry and pioneered collapsed in such short notice :(

Detroit was the model city for socialism starting in the 1960s. So it went from being the most productive city in the world to the biggest shithole in the U.S. in 50 years.

It doesn't help that nowadays there is a big scavenging market for copper and other materials there, so people do this for a living a go into abandoned houses, break the walls and strip the house clean. This of course leads to even faster decay.

Not surprised.

I've seen Government housing projects in Winnipeg, Manitoba go through the same ordeal. They were cheaply built for Native Indians, but after a few years, what looked brand new became complete trash.
