The most important issue happening right now.

I'm glad my kpop fave is supporting this really important cause.

I hope you fave is doing the same, otherwise...

At first it's like American or English speaking idols but when go further down the list it's more and more full on born and raised Koreans. That's pretty cool.

Ugly Duck, one of Jay Park's artists, has talked about it every time he tweets or posts on IG. He's born and raised Korean.

Every single member of Momoland shared something about BLM, EVERY SINGLE ONE. Ahin is actively speaking out about it. No one else has an excuse.

Right? I hate when people say "oh they don't know about it". Please. This made worldwide news. So many Korean born idols are talking about it. Koreans are talking about it. In Tokyo, they're protesting for BLM and against police brutality in their nation and in America.

They forgot Tablo:

edit: nvm the Twitter thread OP posted didn't list Tablo but another one (by versacetaehyung) did.

that said, let's not accuse idols who didn't speak up or post about it on their SNS of "staying silent" because some probably choose to show their support in private and not publicly.

is yeri the only sm artist who's posted about it so far? that's a little disappointing given how closely they work with black producers/writers/choreographers/people in general tbh.

not gonna lie i do side eye wendy a little for staying mute, while yeri who has no personal or familial connection to north america and barely speaks any english, chose to use her platform. this would be a great opportunity for wendy to redeem herself after her racist remarks.

fans love saying "they would if they could" but clearly, as shown by yeri and that day6 guy... they can. makes me side eye some idols, especially ones that grew up in the west or take a special interest in black culture/hiphop.

it's just refreshing to see that the entire world is finally paying attention to the truth after centuries of going through the same pain over and over, and sometimes even being told we deserve it

this.

but it also feels incredibly performative in a lot of ways, seeing the same people who shamed the ferguson protesters and defended police brutality years ago, now suddenly posting their utmost support for blm on social media. idk i guess people change, but it still leaves a sour taste in my mouth.

Right, which is why I focused more so on the global witness of people actually seeing what is happening, because even if these celebrities and sudden allies go back on their word years from now, we know that this injustice has reached international headlines and no one can deny the lies that have penetrated every country where previous biased Western media had sunk it's claws. Before, it was that AA's were just stirring up trouble as always and now people see that AA's are and have been trying to defend themselves against a systemic inhumanity. And they see every piece of it - from the begging for life to pleading for help to the unapologetic police force to the lack of charges even now to the differences in autopsy reports. It's like every lie concerning black aggression is coming to light at one time while the world is watching. The world finally has no more excuses because of this moment. I'm just trying to stay in a positive zone because if I think about the fact that it took 400+ years of torture for people to finally acknowledge it....

Speaking of 'a great opportunity to redeem herself', Amber from f(x) has spoken quite extensively about this and even called out Trump for this.  No other kpop idol afaik went after Trump ever so I can't say Amber learnt nothing since making those comments that a man deserved to get arrested for eating a sandwich on JK News.

not discrediting yeri in any way i just wanted to share that the post she used to share in her ig story is from seo herin who used to be an sm trainee and trained closely with yeri! it's highly likely herin reached out to yeri specifically about the matter, i think it's great that yeri has good friends and yeri herself is willing to listen
