(Throwback) SNSD - Kissing You (a real live performance)

The song that got me into Kpop for good back in 2007! the 1st studio album "girls' generation" was released in november 2007, and "kissing you" was promoted as a single starting january 2008. this was the second single they promoted from the album, the first being "girls generation" and the third being "baby baby".

This was probably also what made me realize i was different from the other kids in school because everyone was obsessing over big bang and there i was, jamming out to kissing you alone...

I miss the old days of ACTUAL live performances. Don't fool yourselves lmao these days, 99.9999% of kpop acts on weekly music shows like music bank, music core, inkigayo, mnet countdown, etcetc lip sync to a prerecorded track (either prerecorded beforehand in studio or using the stage's audio system the day of). I feel like this trend started around 2013 and didnt stop, and companies became obsessed with their idols appearing "perfect". but back in the day, delivering a truly live performance, whether it was perfect or not, was much more admirable. even if someone's voice cracked, or went flat, or someone's mic wasn't working well, or lyrics were forgotten - at least you could say that they were actually singing live.

It's ironic how so many people use to drag SNSD for their vocals back in the days, and now they're praisedT^T

I agree, many stages are pre-recorded. Personally, I don't mind pre-recorded vocals, since they're still the members singing live that day. Depends on the group too.

But yea overall real time live performance is more admirable and genuine. That's the beauty of going to concerts

lmao truuu back then, snsd was dragged for literally everything LOL but today, theyre well respected for their legacy, so at least theres that...

i totally agree with you! i think thats what makes the concert experience so special too :') (aside from the fact that we get to see them ofc hehe). i guess my problem with prerecorded vocals is that the idols may review the footage afterward, and if theyre not satisfied with it, they can keep recording until they get a finished product theyre satisfied with. and im sure the production/audio tech team may add effects or autotune their voices a bit if it doesnt sound great that day, which is why some so called "mr removed" performances these days still sound like studio produced vocals. but for live performances, its literally one shot at everything, and i kinda like the high stakes 😛

id rather hear polished pre-recorded vocals over struggle live vocals tbh

but i do appreciate the effort and SNSD was especially impressive during ITNW (bc of the tough choreography)

i can respect that 😄 i guess as an oldie, i like to here the raw vocals, even if theyre struggling, especially if they manage to pull it off since it makes it that much more impressive :3

Damn this makes me miss late 2000s kpop. When was the last time I heard such raw vocals?

The only time you will probably hear groups sing without all the effects on music shows these days is during the encores. But a lot of groups, especially the newer ones, look so hesitant to sing because their raw singing is basically amplified and they're probably scared to fuck up.
