Korea would probably enjoy that sort of music as the innocent image and cheerful songs worked for groups like Gfriend or Apink or their own hit ah choo. They didn't get a hit after ah choo but probably don't experiment because they fear losing the fandom. The fandom might not be big but is already profitable since they held concerts with good attendance.

Anyway most groups hit big in their rookie years. Lovelyz was considered a rival for red velvet since they debuted the same year, also a rival for Gfriend because of the school girl concept. However both of these ggs became a top group alongside twice, so yea, read it as they were overshadowed and became a one hit wonder. I mean not every group can be on top.

But i'm still quite shocked since the media play around the infinite sister group and the next SNSD and everything else was huge. I don't think woollim messed up. They had lots of comebacks in their rookie years, even had chance to go viral, most groups hit big after that. Public probably just preferred others and that's it.

I agree with everything you said. Sometimes hitting big and become an established top group like Twice/BP/RV or even a upper-mid tier group like OMG is a matter of luck/timing more than just the company's promotions or marketing strategy. Many groups are well promoted by the company and still don't catch the public's attention for some reason. Same that 1-2 hit songs don't necessarily mean you're gonna become a top group. Momoland for example had the chance of becoming really big after the huge viral hit that was Bboom Bboom and even Baam doing decently but they lost all the hype pretty fast.

Another example (kinda) is G-idle. They're pretty well promoted in general and they even got a lot of attention in Queendom, however their songs except for Latata haven't charted that well. It's shocking that even April is charting better than them this year.

From the perspective of a casual listener of kpop, idk any of their songs. Their image is similar to gfriend, I think? If gfriend is already on the market then why would people want a copy of them if the copy is not better? I heard they did not stand out in Queendom too. I've only come across an AOA performance on Queendom where they wowed me.

The only thing I remember about lovelyz is Mijoo's posing, Sujeong's body, and Kei's nose job.

I liked them, I mean, I used to be a BIG fan. But nowadays they've been kinda going downhill to be honest. Their songs are becoming less and less interesting. And the company is Crap.

They have good and bad songs. I enjoyed their discography, but to be honest after a while I went through my playlist and there's not many tracks of theirs that I wanna replay.

They are not underrated at all. They are at where they are, quality and performance-wise. Hell you could say the same to your bias groups like in the title OP made.
