well, for my own biased reasons i hope it’s gfriend..they’ve always said that shinhwa is their role model group strictly bc of their longevity.

given oh my girl’s recent success, i wouldn’t be surprised if they were a group like that as well...i'm happy for both groups if that’s the case, since i’ve been listening to both since 2015 ❤️

I can see mamamoo being active as long as brown eyed girls have thus far

BEG is a different situation then Apink. Apink is more relevant, right? Apink has been able to release popular music and remain active as group during the current generation, while BEG hasn't.

well to be fair brown eyed girls have been around for 14 years now and apink have 9 lol....

BEG last cb wasn't successful but their cb before that in 2015 was. So if you compare their 9 year mark with apinks its relatively the same. but overall BEG have more hits and more public relevance especially when you look at both groups peaks

Good point. Tho still Apink is the 2nd gen girl group that has been able to adapt to the new generation the most

Maybe Mamamoo? MMM have their own things going on which the company allows them to do and are tight as a group.

Generally speaking:

Longevity - Hard to say since all the members involved would need to still have a shared goal in common (i.e. the group) and still find it beneficial to them. Most groups don't disband just because they don't get along; it's usually because they want different things, want to follow their own dreams outside the group etc. SNSD still close but some members wanted to be actors and pursue solo intl dreams which being in the group was restricting them from doing.

Apink members still find the group beneficial to them individually and as a unit considering that most of them will likely be unsuccessful outside the group (sorry lol).

Relevance - depends on what you mean by relevance. Groups can have longevity, relevance and success without always having a gp hit song - the strength of their fandom and individual careers can sustain them.

I always saw Twice as the apink and snsd of the newer generation. My reasons? Both groups have remained relevant even in the new wave of groups. SNSD's reunion at a wedding created so much buzz. APINK's latest comeback showed everyone that they aren't going to disappear.

Twice is on that path.

Agree, the songs do not have be "major" hits with the public. But they should still be relevant among the Kpop community at least. Like I said above Apink has been able to adapt to the new generation.

The "relevant" you're referring to here for SNSD isn't what I'm talking about for this thread. Some 1st gen groups also create buzz when they have reunions. SNSD hasn't been able to remain active as a group for a bit.

edit: I'm sure SNSD will eventually make a comeback. But it hasn't happened yet.

Yeah I know but Twice is on the path basically. Even with the hits with APINK, Twice is on the path that they are on and more I think.

Almost all of them? Nowadays ggs have stronger fandoms and staying power unless they're extremely mismanaged. Most of those groups have both public recognition, digital hits and solid fandoms so I don't see why they wouldn't last 10 years or more, especially groups like Twice or Blackpink that have touring power too.

Good point

tho there's only two main reasons I can think of...bad company management or individual members want to leave or do more solo activities.

Yeah, if members decide to leave and go for solo careers or to start a family that's another story. For example Sistar if I'm not mistaken disbanded because the members wanted to follow their own solo careers, not for lack of success, because they were literally digital monsters until their last moment.

Like I said,  nowadays a girl group has to be extremely mismanaged or very nugu to disband early. Even a group like Dreamcatcher could survive many years because they have a solid fandom and touring power, which not even many boygroups have.

It still hurts thinking about Sistar disbandmentT-T

My pick would be GFriend.

They have a similar sort of vibe/concept to Apink.

When you look at the majority of the other groups - I think they have members that will all leave at some point to promote individually.

GFriend doesn't really seem to have that one member that stands out. They are a very balanced group. I don't see many of them doing individual activities but I also don't follow them that closely

Twice - J-Line & Tzyuyu will likely end up promoting in home countries. If/when they permanently lose a member it's going to be SNSD 2.0, and another group will rise to take the throne

Blackpink - Jennie will eventually go solo, Lisa eventually back to be biggest star in Thailand/SEA. YG worst company at giving promotions

Red Velvet - SM will eventually lessen their promotions with the new GG - Joy, Irene acting/MC, Seulgi/Wendy Solo, Yeri MC maybe

OMG - Maybe a chance, I think Arin/Jiho will get into acting at some point though.

Lovelyz - Woolim will probably cast them aside for Rocket Punch when Eunbi n Chaewon are done with Izone. They can't really be called successful in the same way as Apink.

Mamamoo - more a BEG style group, they will have longevity as long as the members want it IMO - but members will have a lot of solo projects

WJSN - similar to Lovelyz, their success isn't on the same level as Apink. Bona to acting. Will no doubt get cast aside for the next Starship group with Wonyoung and Yujin after Izone is done.

Wanted to vote for all three - Gfriend, Mamamoo and Oh My Girl, but ended up giving my vote for Gfriend. I can see them being a lot like APink, they also have a strong friendship that will always help them out and I can see the girls wanting to stick together.

Mamamoo is that mature Sunny Hill/BEG kind of group They will have their solo activities but they will come together to have comebacks. They will never disband.

Oh My Girl - I wanted to mention the same reasoning why I voted for Gfriend, because I can see them sticking together and they all have a strong bond with each other. Plus, girls love to work with each other.

I'm not gonna include Mamamoo since you said like Apink cause Mamamoo longevity is more towards BEG.

Like most of them mentioned, it's going to be Gfriend and Oh My Girl. Gfriend off the music part are similar to Apink in a lot of ways. How they treasure their friendship, their fans and stay loyal to their own group; those are pretty much the same to a long extend. It's one of my biggest reason to stan Gfriend after Apink.

I didn't know much from Oh My Girl. But seeing them in shows and from fancams, I think they're also similar kind of group to Apink and Gfriend.

Though, I'm interested to see this in Lovelyz and WJSN too lol
