A Japanese comedian apologized Wednesday for his recent remarks that men can look forward to seeing "pretty girls entering (the sex industry) after the coronavirus is over" as they would be in need of money and obliged to take such jobs temporarily.

Takashi Okamura, who sparked controversy after making the remarks last week during a weekly midnight live radio show he hosts, said he "deeply regrets" them in a statement posted on the website of Yoshimoto Kogyo Holdings Co., to which he belongs.

Okamura, 49, who forms the two-man comedy unit Ninety-nine with Hiroyuki Yabe, said he made the remarks "without considering circumstances in the world," adding they were "extremely inappropriate toward people who are in a tough position."

During the "All Night Nippon" radio show broadcast by Nippon Broadcasting System Inc. in the early hours of last Friday, Okamura made the remarks in question after reading a comment from a listener who complained about being unable to use services in the sex industry due to the pandemic.

"God will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear," he said, and added, "After the coronavirus is over, something absolutely fantastic will occur."

"You will think, 'I've never seen a girl like this' (in the industry) after the coronavirus is over...so please hold on, save your money now for use in 'fuzoku' (sexual entertainment services)" after the pandemic is gone, he quipped.

Prior to his apology, Nippon Broadcasting System offered an apology on its website on Monday, saying Okamura's remarks showed "lack of understanding of the current coronavirus calamities as well as lack of respect for women."

This is not the first time that he has to apologize for his misogynistic remarks. Let's remember his opinion about Higashide Masahiro cheating scandal...

And yet you have women proclaim that "sex-work" is somehow "empowering". All these women fighting for that notion to be true while men only look at these women as objects and something to get their dicks wet.

Him apologizing means nothing at the end of the day as his misogynistic views are deep rooted and his mindset will not change. Any public remorse from him comes off as insincere.

Going off history, unfortunately he'll continue to make these types of comments as long as he's still in showbiz.

for real?

sex-workers "technically" sell their body for cash so those "men" are looking for quick service they will never view that as anything beyond just an "object" for them it's just as same as using the ATM machine for a quick cash withdraw.

I am not sure how is that considered empowering unless those women are trying to protect the industry for some reason.

the most depressing part is that it's true, obtaining money is one of the number one reasons for voluntarily entering prostitution bc many times, the options for quick and sustainable funds just isn't the same for girls as they are for boys. It's not a coincidence that over 80% are women >.<

I saw people (even women) claim that going to sex industry is some kind of mental healing for victims of sexual violence since in sex industry they will have total control over their body and sexuality. So... Dont really try to find logic there. Some people just dont do logic at all.

Those "pretty girls" entering the industry are young women (18-25), so they are at their most vulnerable years where they are naive, poor, lost, lack of confidence.....

I'm not saying all of them are innoscent, I do think many like it....but for a lot of them it's just an immature phase where they don't really see what they are doing in a bigger picture.

And seeing an olderman giving such remarks make me angry because it's still an exploitation of those girls as there isn't enough human rights organisation that protect prostitutes or porn actress from sexual abuse, as lots of them are on drugs.
