Fairytale Fashion: Inside Seo Ye Ji’s Style From “It’s Okay To Not Be Okay”

spacer.png

tvN’s “It’s Okay to Not Be Okay” has quickly become a K-drama for the ages: it has an all-star cast and a plot that explores important issues of mental health in a wonderfully healing, heartfelt way. But there’s no denying another reason why this drama is topping everyone’s lists of faves: female lead Go Moon Young’s (Seo Ye Ji) fashion! The talented Seo Ye Ji looks gorgeous in every single outfit in her role as this fairytale author. What’s the key to her fashion? Well, we could take it from Moon Young herself: “if you want to be fashionable, you must be uncomfortable and stubborn.” But for further insight into how Go Moon Young puts together her stunning looks — and an aesthetic feast of photos and gifs — read on!

Spoiler

1. Sleeves that slay
We knew Moon Young was unique from her first moment on screen, but it was probably this dress that first made us realize how totally iconic she would be:

The bright pink and turquoise tones create a bold effect, but it’s that giant shoulder bow that tells us not to mess with this boss lady. In fact, this is one of Moon Young’s most important style tips: it’s all about the sleeves! Whether it’s bows, ruffles, or edgy points, Moon Young’s sleeves always accentuate her shoulders to give off an air of being large and in charge, yet still distinctly feminine.

2. Business with a twist
Speaking of feminine, Moon Young almost always sports a skirt, frequently as part of a matching set that has a business-like vibe. In monochrome outfits with jacket tops, Moon Young can look anything from cute to graceful to sexy, yet still maintain an air of professionalism.

Ever alluring, even Moon Young’s more formal looks have a sexy twist, featuring either short skirts that show off Seo Ye Ji’s beautiful legs, or the subtlest peek of waist via a cropped long-sleeve top, like in the pink set above or in this stunning black ensemble:

3. Corset effect
Speaking of Moon Young’s waist, she also loves to accentuate it: whether it’s a low-sitting layered cami top or an oversized leather belt, these statement pieces are among the most unique points of Moon Young’s fashion!

spacer.png

4. Fairy-like frocks
Moon Young can be a real handful sometimes — from stubborn to rude to downright dangerous — but because of her terrible childhood, Moon Young in many ways hasn’t matured since she was a little girl: she’s also incredibly childlike and innocent. This softer side of Moon Young’s personality also comes across in her fashion, when she wears ethereal white and pastel dresses with delicate, fluttery textures. Forget fairytales — Seo Ye Ji looks like a fairy herself in these outfits!

5. Queen of statements
As if her stunning outfits weren’t enough, Moon Young’s accessories are downright exquisite. Her jewelry, sunglasses, and handbags are worthy of being called statement pieces, and yet they’re delicate enough to not come across as over-the-top. Moon Young frames her face with long, elegant earrings, in timeless finishes like gold, pearl, and diamond.

When she’s not hypnotizing us with her signature, slightly sparkly eye makeup, Moon Young dons a pair of oversized shades in some edgy geometric shapes:

Another look we love? Her mismatch earrings on the right!

And when it comes to other accessories, delicate jewelry and perfect manicures accentuate Seo Ye Ji’s long, slender fingers:

Finally, Moon Young is rarely without a designer purse or clutch, but our favorite has got to be this insanely tiny bag:

Practical? No. Adorable? Yes.

6. Head to toe glam
Our girl knows the importance of topping an outfit off with the perfect hat, or pulling a look together with a gorgeous pair of heels.

spacer.png

We don’t quite understand how Moon Young manages to strut around in heels all day, every day, but her feet are always adorned with stunning stilettos — she does love sharp things, after all.

spacer.png

7. Classically feminine
All of Moon Young’s outfits are quite feminine, but this quality really comes through in some of her relatively simpler outfits: a patterned dress with a bow or a few ruffles makes for an effortlessly graceful, charmingly feminine look.

8. Goddess-like gowns
The best part about living in a giant mansion, I imagine, would be traipsing around wood-paneled rooms and down grand staircases in long, flowing robes. Luckily, we can live vicariously through Seo Ye Ji as she does just that: Moon Young’s lounge outfits are hauntingly beautiful and make her look as gorgeous as a goddess — or like she’s just stepped out of a fairytale.

4 Memorable Lines In “It’s Okay To Not Be Okay” That Left A Deep Impression In Viewers’ Hearts

spacer.png

Spoiler

tvN’s “It’s Okay to Not Be Okay” is receiving a lot of love and attention for its unique plot, characters, fashion, and lines.

Spoilers
With just two episodes left until the end, the drama unveiled a memorable line from each of the four main characters that melted viewers’ hearts.

1. Moon Kang Tae (Kim Soo Hyun)
In episode 13, Moon Kang Tae showed up to take a family photo with Go Moon Young (Seo Ye Ji) and his older brother Moon Sang Tae (Oh Jung Se), and this hinted that he was planning to be with her despite their past ill relationship. He said to her, “Come to think of it… it’s pretty neat to protect your family at the risk of your life,” and when asked if that included her, he responded, “If we’ve taken family photos together, we’re family.”

2. Go Moon Young
After transferring the escaped patient from the hospital in episode 4, Go Moon Young and Moon Kang Tae ate ramen at a convenience store. There, she commented he was like a child, and when asked why, she said, “I can see that you want to be loved.” Immediately after her words, a young Moon Kang Tae appeared before her, and viewers were able to see that he wasn’t able to enjoy his childhood like other people.

3. Moon Sang Tae
After finding out that she and Moon Kang Tae were tied to a harsh fate due to their mothers’ ill relationship, Go Moon Young fell into deep despair, and all Moon Kang Tae could do was helplessly watch her suffer. Moon Sang Tae, who was not aware of the fact, tightly hugged his brother. When Moon Kang Tae admitted he was scared, Moon Sang Tae said, “Are you scared? Of course you’re scared. You’re my little brother.” Then he said soothingly reassured, “I’ll protect you. I’m the older brother, so I’m your guardian.”

4. Nam Joo Ri (Park Gyu Young)
After his older brother caused a disturbance at the hospital, Moon Kang Tae became overwhelmed with remorse and guilt. At that particular moment, Nam Joo Ri reminded him about what they always tell their patients. She said, ‘To make the people around me happy, I have to be happy first.’ So being selfish isn’t necessarily a bad thing. If it’s too hard, just think about your own happiness.” Her wise words motivated Moon Kang Tae and encouraged him to ask forgiveness from his brother.

“It’s Okay To Not Be Okay” Producer Teases What To Look Forward To In Finale + Praises Cast

Spoiler

As tvN’s “It’s Okay to Not Be Okay” winds to a close, chief producer (CP) So Jae Hyun sat down to talk about the drama and its upcoming finale.

“It’s Okay to Not Be Okay” is a unique romance drama about the love story between Moon Kang Tae, a community health worker at a psychiatric ward who doesn’t have time for love (played by Kim Soo Hyun), and Go Moon Young, a successful children’s book author who suffers from antisocial personality disorder and has never known love (played by Seo Ye Ji).

With just one episode left in its run, So Jae Hyun expressed disbelief that the drama was already coming to an end. “It seems like just yesterday that we were filming in the chilly days of early spring, and now we’re already approaching the end of the drama in the middle of summer,” he remarked. “I want to thank all the amazing actors who helped ‘It’s Okay to Not Be Okay’ shine.”

From the outset, “It’s Okay to Not Be Okay” received a great deal of attention due to the fact that it marked Kim Soo Hyun’s very first drama since his return from the military last year. Although So Jae Hyun praised all of the cast members for their stellar acting and contributions to the drama, he spoke highly of Kim Soo Hyun’s performance in particular.

Describing his importance to the drama as a whole, the CP commented, “Kim Soo Hyun is an actor who became the sturdy central axis of our drama over the course of 16 episodes.” He also sang the praises of leading lady Seo Ye Ji, remarking, “She’s an actress who perfected Go Moon Young, who was a new kind of character that hadn’t been seen in romantic comedies before.”

So Jae Hyun continued, “I was able to feel the cast’s fondness for the drama and their passion from seeing the twinkle in their eyes on set: Oh Jung Se, who took on a difficult acting challenge and exceeded our expectations; Park Gyu Young, who was constantly praised by the crew; and everyone who played the staff at the publishing company and the psychiatric hospital.” Playing off the drama’s title, he added, “I think we were able to create a truly ‘okay’ drama because of our unparalleled cast.”

“I myself received a lot of healing and comfort from [the drama], and I think I will remember it as a good memory for a long time,” he went on. “Thank you so much to everyone; you all worked really hard.”

Finally, So Jae Hyun hinted at what viewers could look forward to in the drama’s highly-anticipated series finale.

“Up until now, we’ve shown you the process of Kang Tae, Moon Young, and Sang Tae embracing and healing each other’s emotional wounds,” said the CP. “In the final episode, you can look forward to seeing what lies ahead for these three people after they achieve emotional growth.”

He warmly added, “I hope that watching these characters inspires viewers to think of themselves as precious and to take the time to worry about their own happiness.”

The final episode of “It’s Okay to Not Be Okay” will air on August 9 at 9 p.m. KST.
