Liu Haoran ranked #1, Xiao Zhan Kicked Out of Top 10

In a recent 2020 ranking, the potential index of 200 Chinese male celebrities was announced. The weight factors included the qualitative and quantitative evaluation of upcoming works and roles, age, and awards. Through this ranking, we can sense that the situation in the entertainment industry has been reshuffled.

To our surprise, Xiao Zhan (肖戰) fell out of the Top-10 list, ranking in 11^th place. The 28-year-old heartthrob’s popularity surged in 2019. With his performances in The Untamed (陳情令) and Joy of Life (慶餘年), Xiao Zhan quickly became a media’s favorite, and brand ambassador offers swarmed in. We can probably attribute his popularity plunge to the cyber war between netizens and Xiao Zhan’s fans at the end of February, also known as the “227 Incident”. Xiao Zhan’s popularity was hit hard by netizens boycotting his dramas and the brands he endorsed.

Since then, Xiao Zhan has vanished on social media for 46 days – until now. Other than a post on April 4 to mourn the COVID-19 victims, his last entry on the Oasis App was on February 24, where he had a fringe of hair cut in observance of Longtaitou Festival (龍抬頭).

On April 10, he re-surfaced on Weibo with a drawing of plum blossoms, which received over 2.2 million “likes” within 22 minutes. Judging by the speed, it’s only a matter of time for Xiao Zhan to climb back into the Top 10.

Liu Haoran (劉昊然) ranked No. 1 in the list; his Detective Chinatown (唐人街探案) movie series all proved to be box-office hits, and we can definitely get to see more of his works in the coming future. Wang Yibo (王一博), Xiao Zhan’s co-star in The Untamed was ranked 6^th in the list. The others in the Top 5 list are: Li Xian (李現), Yuchang Peng (彭昱暢), Jackson Yi (易烊千璽), and Allen Deng (鄧倫).
