Kang Daniel’s Agency Announces New System For Speedier Action Against Malicious Comments

KONNECT Entertainment shared new plans to further protect Kang Daniel against malicious comments and postings.

On April 1, the agency released the following statement:

"Hello, this is KONNECT Entertainment.

Thank you very much for your support and love for our artist Kang Daniel.

Last year, we took legal action on two occasions against false rumors, sexual harassment, defamation, attacks, privacy infringement, etc., which inflicted mental damage not only on our artist Kang Daniel but also on his fans and family.

Starting today (April 1, 2020), KONNECT Entertainment will make up for the shortcomings of the current legal team by partnering up with LIWU Law Group’s new “Clean Internet Center.” We will strengthen our online monitoring to 24 hours and utilize a more professional and systematic manner to combat against malicious postings.

LIWU Law Group’s “Clean Internet Center” will be responsible for preemptively carrying out legal action against malicious comments, which are seen as social side effects, along with the development of online media and internet communities. The “Clean Internet Center” operates by having monitoring personnel identify malicious comments and other postings at all times, and legal action is taken following immediate legal review and the celebrity’s consent. We will be taking measures one step ahead of the past method in which action was taken after a particular incident occurred and became an issue.

LIWU Law Group targets a wide range of online platforms through the “Clean Internet Center,” including specific articles, social media postings by certain people, and communities used by unspecified people. We will also monitor malicious comments posted on various online platforms, as well as illegal postings that unfairly violate the personal rights of a particular person. Therefore, everything from simple verbal abuse to reckless slander, privacy violations, and personal insults will be monitored by the “Clean Internet Center.” We will have approximately 10 people regularly monitoring [the internet].

The reports collected and sent by fans to our e-mail account ([email protected]) will be continuously monitored through LIWU Law Group’s “Clean Internet Center,” so we look forward to your active cooperation.

Thank you."

Kang Daniel recently released his first mini album “CYAN” and the music video for his title track “2U.”

Soompi article

Kang Daniel has been battling a large group of antis since the beginning of his career but it got much worse last year. The Produce 101 Season 2 fan community on DC Inside has been turned into a place to share and organize for this group. There are thousands of members there that have spread on other social media like twitter and have even entered KD's private fancafe. His legal representatives asked for the closure of the DC Gallery.

"

This is Lawyer Yeom Yong Pyo of Yulchon Law Firm who is representing singer Kang Daniel.

On December 16, we submitted an application to the Seoul Central District Court to request the closure of the “Produce 101 Season 2 Gallery” (hereinafter referred to as Season 2 Gallery) on the internet portal site DC Inside.

There are currently millions of posts publicly posted on Season 2 Gallery, many of which are libelous falsehoods that severely undermine Kang Daniel’s social rating, such as illegal postings that exceed the boundaries of normal freedom of expression and are subject to very severe punishment.

As many as thousands or even tens of thousands of illegal posts are posted daily on Season 2 Gallery, and as a result, Kang Daniel has declared a break in his entertainment career.

It is widely known that not only Kang Daniel, but also many other celebrities have suffered serious damage, including violations of privacy, due to illegal malicious comments.

We considered these posts as part of the interest in Kang Daniel and expected [people] to voluntarily refrain from the illegal activities, but there was no other way, which eventually led us to take to legal measures.

We will continue to take strong measures against malicious postings by taking steps such as deleting postings, suspending postings, blocking access, and even closing online bulletin boards."

The response form DC was to basically just accept that anti fans exist and their malicious and harmful comments are part of "free speech" (worth mentioning that the community has made it purposely difficult to report comments threatening with the user with a ban in case the report is "false"):

"

Hello, this is DC Inside.

We lament the fact that a request has been made that is unconstitutional in a country with freedom of expression. The request to close a gallery has no legal basis. Through monitoring of reports by users, DC Inside managers take 24-hour action including deletion and suspension when there is a problematic post.

On DC Inside, there are users with various tendencies and opinions across over 30,000 galleries. Both fans and anti-fans are active on galleries for celebrities. Shutting down a specific gallery will not make anti-fans disappear, and it appears that this request will instead create even more anti-fans.

This is the same as asking for Gwanghwamun to be removed because there are many protests in Gwanghwamun, and DC Inside has never, not even once, closed a gallery in its over 20 years of operation.

We believe that rather than requesting a closure of the gallery, there is a need for a tolerance in which fans are embraced.

Thank you."

Important to know that harmful content has come out of DC galleries not only for Daniel but many other celebrities. It was also revealed members of the Nth room were regular users of a DC Gallery as well.

Hopefully, this Clean Internet Center will begin being used by other celebrities that are suffering from this kind of targeted harrassment.
