Do you have to be Korean to be a Kpop star? (Answered by an idol)

I still see a lot of questions like this floating around. Let's have an actual idol answer...

The question was... "How do you define a Kpop star?" And "Do you specifically have to be from Korea?"

@0:28

Jaehyun: "We have Chinese members, and Japanese members, and also Korean, and American, and Canadian members, so I think... it doesn't matter." (he says, firmly and resolutely). And you can hear all the other members next to him agreeing... (Johnny, Taeil, Haechan, and Taeyong).

As we know, NCT is a multinational group, so it's not surprising that their Korean members are open-minded about this.

The most obvious answer is no, literally so many groups have foreign members in the past few decades.

The question shouldn't be do you have to be Korean to be a kpop idol but rather what type of work environment are they placing foreign idols in that there are many citations of discrimination.

It will only take one of these big companies implementing an actual (SORRY NOT FKING SORRY BOO stop ranting and raving oppar really aint that melanated) much more melanated kween or king for others to follow suit. This person should have specified because I would have replied the same way with that quiplash safety answer henny. NCT answered correctly and I aint mad atom! I raise my electrons to ya!

See it how you see it but the tea is there is a monkey see monkey do mentality surrounding k-entertainment companies PRIMARILY as it relates to the pop artists. SEW if one of these bigger companies were to zoo what it zoo and take that leap of faith into unchartered waters it is possible and I think more companies would be willing to take the risk and yes it's a risk cause yall know casper the friendly ghost is the beauty standard over there.

I feel the Kpop industry prefer Asians or Caucasian (or a mix of the two) that fit a "Korean standards of beauty"

In most cases, successful groups are still majority Korean (whether they're born in Korea or not...e.g. American Korean, etc...)

Part of what makes a Korean idol unique isn't just the industry they work in, but also their background and culture.
