Are they trying to tell me that as a third-generation overseas Chinese, I'm not considered Chinese even though I speak the language, grew up in the culture and so on?

I've never seen this happen except HK and Taiwan. Generally, the majority of Chinese Americans and Chinese people in Western countries that acknowledge their heritage. And why is citizenship important? Even if people like Yifei or Kris don't have Chinese citizenship, they're still Chinese in every other way. I don't get it why Cnetz are mad. These celebrities are the ones that are, more or less, giving Chinese people a positive image outside of China. Do they think that non-Chinese people will look at them, and be able to know their citizenship status? No... they will see them as Chinese... smh. btw I'm not directing this at you, I'm just continuing the discussion and aiming this at Cnetz lol
