Vocally do you think the standards are too low in the kpop industry ? Why ?

I think it’s my issue with kpop.

Let’s keep it real EVERY kpop group have members who can’t really sing (sorry 😕).

people are saying that idols are here to entertain but that’s BS i think. Every artist is entertaining the audience but you have to come up with the vocals.

We as kpop fans, I think we praise mediocrity too much.

on YouTube it’s awful. They are like « OMG YEEEES king/queen of vocals » when the actual member is not even stable and the notes are awful.

They also praise the fact their fav is singing live « OMG live king/queen » 😑😑 duh when you are an artist you sing live. There’s nothing impressive about that.

sigh this is like a repetitive comment.. let's be real.. is Rihanna a better singer than Jojo?

No. But she's the bigger star.. people need to realize that when it comes to the entertainment industry sorry not sorry talent alone doesn't cut it.

The look, the likeability, the branding, the marketing etc.. all of these play a HUGE factor in how successful a person (or group) is.

People like what they like and there are people who study or focus on a particular market (aka a target market).

Keep yelling about standards all you like but at the end of the day... isn't it the same for alot of markets..? -looks at jennifer lopez who once upon a time was a top star too-

idols are not meant to be singers

even koreans look down on them and don't consider them real artists . so companies no longer care

it used to be better before but we didn't have that large number of groups in the past

now  kpop groups are getting bigger bigger in terms of number so weaknesses are bound to be shown , i mean if we talk about the percentage

there are great singers but companies rely on the visual aspect first

For kpop it's mostly about visuals, trends and concept. Not much attention is placed on vocal ability because you can use autotune in the studio and lip-sync on the stage.

Spoiler

P.S. If you want to stan a group with outstanding vocalists, here's Dreamcatcher's main ones:

it more like people doesn't know what real singing is .... i think the standards are rather high for some groups and very weak for the rest .it not like it different in other countries , the issue is how massive kpop is nowadays and how obsessive the fans have became .

The Korean "idol" industry is not the only music industry in the world that's like this. Being the best technical vocalist is not always important to succeed in the entertainment industry. Most people don't care about just the "best" or "perfection"...that's can be boring to some..

Nonetheless there are some good idol vocalist in Kpop. And of course there are many great artists with in the overall Korean Music industry too.

The same can be said about the entire pop industry, but I agree.  Especially with the worshipping in the comment section and on stan twitter.  A totally average or just downright bad vocal performance is being praised by the thousands.  It's kinda crazy. And because there is virtually no demand for their artists to improve their vocal skills, they kinda stay at the same level and continue to get praised.

it got beyond that tbh ...an idol say he's taking vocal lessons and their crazy fans comes like a tsunami to the vocal community asking if they're improving , some have improved in 3 years some in 5 yeas some stay stagnant their whole career

kpop provides material in a lot of different areas and everyone can find here something to their interests.

Im into kpop for visuals, dancing and off stage content, so I dont care about vocals usually. sure sometimes Im in mood to hear good music with good vocals and then I go listen to groups that I know can deliver. so in short I dont demand that every group should be able to sing, because...why. like even if they can sing perfectly that alone wont make me interested in them.

rihanna is a better vocalist than most of the kpop industry.  this is not a good analogy..

I think vocals are important to an extent.  I think all kpop idols should be able to hold a tune, but I think that expecting ever idol to be an ace is silly.  The most important thing for an idol is performance.  Are they magnetic on stage, whether because of their vocals or visuals or dancing?  If yes, then they're doing their job.  If no, then yeah, they should probably find a different line of work or get trained more.

"duh when you are an artist you sing live. There’s nothing impressive about that." this is hilarious when there are many groups who constantly lip sync. even at concerts.

anyway, the whole vocals debate is so old and tired. tone and how pleasant a voice is to my own ears will always trump technical vocal prowess to me. some of the so called "best" vocalists in kpop sound monotone and boring to me.

First of all there ARE a lot of good vocalists in kpop and many of them very underrated as well so I'm always wondering why the people complaining about the lack of vocals are not stanning them then. Also I don't know how many times it has to be said that singing is only a part of the job description for them and for the majority it's not the main skill they are trained in. Idols ARE NOT SINGERS they are called idols for a reason because their whole business model is very different from that of the artists and singers who these people could also stan if they actually care that much about singing technique.  If the idols satisfy their fans with their performance and charms and attract more fans in the process they've done their job well.

Mind you technique is not everything when it comes to enjoying someone's singing performance but their tone and emoting are just as if not more important to the masses who let's be honest barely understand a thing about vocal technique anyway..

It depends how you look at it. If you consider every single idol then there are no standards at all but if you consider the vocalists the standards are quite high actually. If you look at what's done at the top it's better than in any pop industry I know.

You just literally skipped over...the entire comment and missed the whole point. I don't feel like repeating myself.

Thank you lol... The facts are the facts.. Talent alone is not the only factor as it pertains to success/stardom in ANY entertainment industry
