I hope mulan flops

The whole live-action seems like a shitshow now, and I genuinely hope it flops. It needed an online petition for Disney to actively pursue Chinese actors for a movie based on CHINESE mythology. They removed all aspects of the original film in favor of something towards the original mythology but it's most likely not family friendly enough for Disney; combined with the fact that the director AND writers are ALL WHITE, I feel like the outcome of the film will be another disappointing misportrayal of Asian culture.

Even if the director focused on the original mythology, her explanation of the removal of Li Shang recently was on the basis of the #MeToo movement and I think it's another depiction of White feminism at play. As a commander training Mulan, Li Shang had always seen Mulan as male during that period AND Mulan was the one who initiated the thought of romance when it was revealed that she was a woman and when she was promoted to a rank higher than him. If anything, they should've explored Li Shang's possible bisexuality instead of having their only LGBTQ+ representation a literal ugly troll cop; considering that bisexual people constantly undergo discrimination by other LGBTQ+ people AND straight people alike.

The last gripping part of this film is the actress portray Mulan herself. Not only has she been criticized for her subpar acting, she has expressed support for the Hong Kong police.

Ugly ass troll should've sat there and ate her food.

Can we take entertainment as just that and not another avenue to channel wokeness? The original directors and writers are white and it turned out fine. The original did not explore Li Shang's sexuality and it turned out fine. The original did not have any LGBTQ+ representation and it turned out fine. Then you demand that they not follow the original mythology because it's not family-friendly enough for you? That they should have altered traditional Chinese mythology to satisfy your wokeness? What happened to respecting other cultures?

Li Shang never existed in the original mythology. I don't understand why you insist that Mulan has a love interest because she doesn't need one. Mulan was always a movie about an independent women who overcame adversity by herself. Li Shang is at best a sub-plot that does nothing to forward the storyline except remind us that girls need to have a love interest to truly succeed and live happily ever after.

The name of the movie is "Mulan" and not "Mulan and Li Shang and their exploration of his inner sexuality". Keep your faux wokeness and selective outrage to yourself. I'll watch the movie thank you.

The most ironic thing about this post is that it selectively takes words from the original post to craft an argument about selective outrage.

My original post is on the basis of Disney's historical trends of creating films and television shows.

I'm not inconsistently arguing on the film to follow the original mythology. The new film has obviously strayed away from the original film and said to have moved on towards the original mythology. I'm saying that staying on the original mythology is obviously not going to happen because it's inconsistent with Disney's background of a "family-friendly" image. You don't think of Disney and then think of non-family friendly concepts. In fact, Disney build their Disney Princess franchise on repurposing gruesome mythologies and stories to be more family-friendly. Disney also recently moved that "Love Simon" TV series to HULU because it wasn't family friendly enough, the "Lizzie McGuire" reboot ENDED because it wasn't family friendly enough.

That being said, it's obviously they're going towards a new direction that's not consistent with the original film nor the original mythology; giving more leeway for the director to explore new concepts and correct some historical inaccuracies from the original film so it won't end up like a two hour Oli London music video.

I'm stating a FAN-FAVORITE THEORY that Li Shang may have been bisexual as an OPTION that they can explore, rather than shoving "Diversity!" in the headlines when in reality they shoved a pink troll in Onwards for five seconds. I'm also saying the removal of Li Shang could've been literally ANY OTHER reason rather some weak pandering to gender politics of the #MeToo movement that the director outlined.
