These days, garbage KTL rip-offs are what is hyped while many other girlcrush releases with actual musicality are ignored. This makes me think, is it the edm noise that ifans enjoy & not the girl-crush concept itself? Would Cheer Up become the next hoe anthem with a trendy EDM arrangement & black outfits?

Anyway, post a recent GC song that you think has good musicality...

Edit:

I know that EDM is large genre of which, most of my favourite songs also fall under. And obviously I'm not against the whole genre, as it can produce various beats including quite chill/relaxing ones like 4Walls.  That specific noisy usage of EDM is what I'm pointing at, which is rather trendy among the so called ''girlcrush'' releases these days...

Cignature mixed girl crush and cute because they can do both~

and came out with the best song of the year so far~

I'd say it's rather teen-crush than girl-crush, a bit jpop-esque too. Reminds me of Twice's One More Time, another bop <33

Idk since I've seen ifans throwing the words "edm noise" everywhere without realizing that 99% of kpop songs nowadays fall under some category of electronic dance music. The song you posted is Moombahton for example. If you mean like hard-hitting songs, then yeah? I guess. Some groups just become more popular than others hence their songs become more hyped.

not sure I’d describe all the recent “girl crush” release: by gg’s KTL rip-offs. None carry the same sound and are pretty distinct from it, they have different sub genres for the base. KTL also wasn’t the first of its kind if we go off of the general grouping you’re using. Like someone mentioned above you can’t just lump them all in together. Just as rock and jazz have sub genres with different sounds, Kpop groups are releasing different sub genred edm as well.

Differentiating them by just using “noisy” and “good” by preference is bubble talk.

Cos I lack the musical knowledge to use any more explanatory words. That's why I tried to give examples. Don't make Kami-chan any more embarrassed...

True... i watch this video before n she spilled

I think not just kpopbut pop ingeneral,  edm is the trend. Like a few yrs ago there was tropical hpuse, now the trend in trap, which is a hip hop genre but there's an edm trap that derives from it. So i think similar enough hhh. No but it does put me off when ppl be saying they hate edm bc  there r somuch diff genres underr that umbrella. And maybe u just don't like a subgenre. I don't think it has to do with being too noisy, but not the noise u like i guess...cuz most of the ppl who "hate edm" will love edm songs their fave releases

It always makes me laugh when I see people hate on EDM, but you see the songs they hype and you're like....but that's also EDM....

It's become a horribly misused buzz-term for "sound I don't like".

i-fans definitely prefer more hard hitting songs but I think the problem with Bvndit is that they're just not popular. If Blackpink, Gidle, Everglow or even CLC released a more chill bop everyone would eat it up because they're popular.

Everglow's Adios definitely has some KTL vibe tho. Similar structure, the "marching" sound, similar concept etc. In fact more people started to check out Everglow for the comparisons between KTL and Adios. ANS' Say my name has that similar BP/Everglow-esque vibe as well.

I had the same impression for adios when I first heard it, the similar concept isn’t easy to ignore either. So I definitely agree with the vibe, the instrumental is another story.

I don’t even know what girl crush is anymore. Almost everything not cute is called girl crush these days. I don’t remember it being that black and white when I got into kpop in 2012.

Because there's different "degrees" of girl crush, the main being the "badass" type like Blackpink, Everglow, CLC and G-idle, and another more light version called "teen crush", more youthful, colorful and fresh but still not totally cute/soft like lovelyz or early A Pink. Examples:

Badass girl crush

Teen crush

I guess you missed the point of my thread.  I never used the expression ''i hate edm'' nor i called out the whole genre saying it's noisy. But I called out the recent kpop trend of using edm beats in a way that sounds like noise. And the song I posted was there to show how EDM can be used more smoothly  with better musicality, in contrast with the songs i consider to be noisy :)

Girl-crush, to my understanding, is a girls' empowering concept which is supposed to make the female audience crush on the female singers. Not every song that isn't cute fall under gc. I see ppl calling the most simple ''oppa saranghae'' songs gc, just because the stylist went with a black wardrobe. Or the most basic ''i want oppa back'' kind of break-up songs.... Kpop is not limited to 2 concepts !!!

Oh lol, that wasn't even directed at you or this thread (I actually forgot the reason I was here after reading several replies). This is just a general thing I see all over every platform. Sorry to derail with an adjacent point to yours. ^^

That's fine, we all get confused from time to time :)

Back in 2012 everything was lumped together in either cute, girl crush or sexy concept, not that much different, honestly
