The Eurovision Song Contest Thread

Recommended Posts

I'm mad at Portugal song winning, such a depressive song that is at the opposite of the true Eurovision's spirit.

Also, his elitist speech about "song with a true feel and meaning" made me choke, the arrogance and highkey shade at all the other contestants was really not pleasant to see. Stay in your fucking lane hipster boy, you ain't no special snowflake, and your song was boring, bye.

"We live in a world of fast food music blah blah blah I am Groot"

I need to see a video

I have to say the last 2 eurovision winners have been getting so much hate. Like back in the days before 2015 the winners were actually accepted and well liked. But it dropped so much recently ... Yikes

I mean I didnt like Jamala and This dude either... Eurovision needs to do something.

What is he complaining about. Eurovision did change everything around after the grannies from Russia almost won. Who is he to decide what real music is?? I mean you are entering Eurovision...

The FB and twitter comments are hilarious! They're also acting all high and mighty when it's just Eurovision.

I told you he and his performance were just pretentious acts. "Real music" my ass. Hungary had a much more emotional and deep song, and the guy composed it on his own. Italy had a much deeper meaning to its song than this love bullshit he sang about. And all those appreciators of music would not even manage to sit through whole contest of similar-to-that songs in the first place. First they vote for something fun "for a change", and all of a sudden it's all about "real music"? People just want to feel better about themselves, not "mainstream", basic hipsters.

I though his speech was good, I didn't perceive him as arrogant while watching live.

our commentators praised his message related with music, he dismissed disposable and fast-food music.

I didn't watch Eurovision last year, cause it wasn't broadcasted in my country, so I was quite surprised to see this "new system" implemented from last year.  I don't get why they focused on jury vote and not the public vote. They won't show anymore on their website how each member of the jury voted? The spokepersons announcing the 12 points score from their respective country's jury and not announcing the public vote was a bad idea. EBU can't stop the biasness if they do this, shaming some countries jury on public.( I guess this is their aim, I honestly don't see other reason for doing this)  The jury vote same as the public vote will always be influenced by many factors, not just music, but in the end, the winner song receives points from all, despite public affinities and support for neighbors, friends etc. (this was so obvious last night and the old editions too)  People give a sympathy vote (especially those who are living abroad and miss their native land, they will vote for their home country... don't blame them for that, is understandable, I'd do the same) , but also give a vote to the song they truly like. The jury vote is much more influenced by politics than public vote. People (including diaspora) vote with their hearts.

ESC should stop saying "national juries", when those juries consist of 5 people each. It's wrong to give the same weight to their votes and public vote (thousands of votes). If they really want to continue like this, with spokepersons announcing how those 5 persons voted, they should at least reveal  the names of the jurors. I was negatively surprised last night when I saw how they are announcing the results. Or they should reveal how the jury and the public from each country voted, not only the jury vote. Is just a matter of seconds to say "12 points from the jury goes to .... and 12 points from the public goes to...."   ( I would have liked that the epic sax guy and the entire Moldova hear publicly that we gave 12 points to them, not to the Netherlands. It was unfair to announce just the jury vote)

New announcement system creates much more suspense in the end. Because televotes can actually change the initial picture of jury votes. Also it's a nice way to see who was the favorite among the viewers.

same suspense would be if they announce how the public from each country voted and after reveal the jury vote. (cumulative votes) sorry, but I really didn't like the new announcement system.

Personally I wish that each European country hear/see how we voted for them, how we rank the songs, not the jury.

We didn't see that last night, only the jury rank. Is unfair to show the jury's rank from each country, but not the public's rank.

btw, I remember you said you are from Israel.

Do you know what's happening? the Israelian spokeperson was very serious last night, the national television is closing?

Its all 2014 again. I am glad I am not the only one who is bitter over the winner this year. Europe likes to play it all alternative culture and shit.

Someone posted an article https://eurovoix.com/2017/04/07/israel-national-broadcaster-ebu/ that explains the situation. I wouldn't be able to explain it any better. Edited by KraiL

Congrats Portugal on winning this year's competition. Although they weren't my favourite, I'm glad Eurovision winner has moved from already standard northern/eastern European countries winners to the west.
I didn't find that Portuguese guy's speech obnoxious, idk, I liked his message.

Jury votes should be gone for good since they're such a joke. They did Hungary so dirty.

I knew Portugal would win laugh.png Sad we didn't even get in the top 3 but I'm happy for Moldova, their song was really catchy...

Im not happy portugal won... Italy can never win..., tbh

this proves it

Il volo had the same happen to them

now again </3

EUROPE Y

Really though...when we have serious songs we don't win, when we have upbeat, catchy songs we don't win either lol

Maybe we should send back Toto Cutugno or Gigliola Cinquetti at this point laugh.png

Anyway Gabbani still did better than most of the previous italian entries, with the exception of Il Volo and Raphael Gualazzi...But yeah I was expecting him to do way better with the televote. At least he got the Press room award

Wasn't his song just a love song though? Unless I'm missing something...Definitely not the only "meaningful" song in the contest

But I'm glad a non english song won tbh, maybe this will encourage more people to sing in their native language in the future...

So much bitterness. Salvador won both in televoting and juries, get over it.

Yes,music won and no one ever said Eurovision is about dance/catchy songs.

People felt attached to the song and voted for him. There weren't sympathy votes,I can't imagine the average person who'll watch ESC that night, will have to search about Salvador's health issues.

It wasn't one of my top favourites but I'm glad something different & old, classic music won. Get over your bitterness and don't hate. You don't even know him and I've seen so much speculation about him and his moves. Lmao.

As for the rest of results,UK WAS ROBBED! Lucie did greatrlytearpls.png I don't like Bulgaria's song lmao,Moldova is over-rated IMO. Blanche was amazingrlytearpls.png Poor Italy though...

Australia didn't deserve a top 10! I'm happy for Hungary.

I thought Belarus would do worse but I'm happy with their placerlytearpls.png Poland, even though I didn't like the song at first, she slayyyyed and she is underrated! Denmark too.

I was sure about Greece's place,it was a typical pop song,nothing new,nothing exciting,nothing that will make you go wow.Not even a top 15 material.

How Croatia got 13th,is a mysteryohpressor.png I guess all the ex Yugoslavian countries had Croatia only in the final.

As for the semi final results,Estonia was placed 6th in televoting and 17th in juriesidontthinksobetchplz.png San Marino got 1 point lmao poor Valentina,I'm sure she'll back to give it a 5th try thoughohpressor.png

Why didn't you vote for Iceland & Latviaohpressor.png ohpressor.png

I am going to repeat this the Dutch commentators said he had heart problems so heck maybe other commentators even said so. So you can't say it did not play a role... It most likely did if commentators were out there saying he had heart problems. Stop denying that it had no influence when it clearly did.

Nobody is bitter people just aren't happy with him and things he said. I don't like his song either so what makes me bitter for that?
