[NB] Hyuna's 'reggae hair' under debate

Dear Lord, Koreans thinking these random plaits automatically represent a cultural style for African Americans is a mess. Knetz don't even know the difference between dreads, braids, twa, cornrows, box braids, protective styles, hair types, coils, density, etc...because instead of just telling them about this stuff and simply clearing up any misunderstanding, someone decided to pull the appropriation argument when no appropriation was occurring. You think Koreans know that blacks weren't just fired for wearing natural hair but it was an actual law that black women had to cover their head and couldn't wear their hair in its natural state? That wearing dreads can still get my brother fired at certain companies no matter how hard he works and how much money he makes them? You think Koreans know that when people tried to present stores with products that helped AA hair and skin, they were ignored? And to this day, it has had an effect on how the community takes care of hair and skin??? Like...a lot of N. Americans don't even know this and we aren't even trying to educate them. N. America is where blacks are suffering because of 400+ years of misinformation spread about blacks, even getting gunned down in the street because of all the lies that have been spread, so how are people going to tell Koreans they're appropriating a culture with which most haven't had any meaningful interaction when the country in which the appropriation started doesn't even understand.

And how tf is it that threads like these always have so many responses but when we post threads about things that are actually destroying the black community (modern slavery, inner-city violence, cuts to school funding, police brutality that didn't make the nightly news, and so on) people who write dissertations in these threads suddenly ghost the fk out of us. I swear, people have so much outrage over hair or the n word but when we ask for support for black owned businesses, after-school organizations, talks between the community and law-enforcement, youth intervention programs-pretty much anything that requires all the caring people to give some of their time, we don't see the same passion.  Our generation is fantastic at talking but when we ask people to show that they actually care as much as they talk-we get next to nothing from those who have the most to say. It's tired.
