Australian Fires and How You Can Help

The Australian fires are still blazing strong with predictions fearing that it may get worse but from the comments on this forum, I believe that many people are passionate about the issue. There are many who have helped out already by donating funds. However, some of us may be too young to have access to steady income and others don't live in Australia. Fortunately, for people who haven't had the opportunity (and those who have) and for those without funds, we can still help people affected by the fires. Spreading word of our support is wonderful but sometimes words of support alone can't bring back items, give children safe spaces, feed an animal or build homes. The age of technology literally allows us to not just observe the chaos of the world but to have a direct hand in reducing it. You can always help. You can always be that person who helps show love in this world.

So-for all my broke ho's that are tired of feeling helpless as you literally watch the earth burn:

Is accepting item donations. If you click on their site link (found in the upper left corner of their Twitter page) you will be redirected to their website where you can read about what items need to be donated. If you have other items that you would like to donate, they also accept separate donations, provided you share a description and a photo of the item that you would like to donate.

Many of the firefighters risking their lives against the bush fires are volunteering their services (hundreds have already left the US to help the efforts in Australia) with no pay and not even the guarantee of adequate safety gear. Imagine a NASCAR driver telling you to race around the track with no seat-belt, helmet, car doors or windshield - it would be an insane thing to ask but for the current firefighter, facing insurmountable odds is the reality. The danger of fighting wildfires is already terrifying but the risk of sickness, injury, or death becomes astronomical and almost guaranteed without safety gear. The least that can happen to these firefighters without proper gear is cancer....

All it needs is your signature. It's not money; it's not items; it's not time - just your name -the most basic thing that we have. Members of organizations and coalitions, CFS and NSW Rural firefighters will help with the rest if everyone combines their efforts.

And there are many other ways overseas individuals can be involved if they don't have a lot of money to spare, such as contacting your state/local Red Cross or Salvation Army organizations to find out if they are taking donations; helping FB groups support wildlife relocations and getting $1 to help plant future trees in Australia by selling your textbooks that you bought for $150!

If you are familiar with any other organizations that accept items or volunteers that may not be able to donate money, please speak up.

Everyone stay safe and always remember to show love however you can.
