Sexy KPOP concepts: 10 years ago

I probably never told others this but I gotten into KPOP during late 9th grade to early 10th grade, when we got our own computers to browse the net and access crappy Korean MMORPGs since we can't afford a credit card. During that time Audition Online was launched in Korea with songs from KPOP groups from Wheesung, Se7en, Fin.KL, DJ Doc and other big artists at the time (also they had songs from the US). While I would get into audition online during 2007, I already noticed the influence of KPOP in some places.

Flash forward to 2012, when Hyuna deubted as an solo artist and later went with Hyunseung as the dirty couple troublemaker that gave middle fingers to Netizens. I was rudely introduced to KPOP in the wake of the Tohoku earthquake that seemed to also cause the Japanese Culture wave to crumble where I live. That was the marking point of Hallyu's formal introduction to the overseas. 3 years later I had embraced the Hallyu as I went back to look at music videos from the 2003 era.

So let's take a look

Fast Forward 10 years later...sexy concepts now...

With outfit changes, choreo changes among the list of things that had been attempting to restrain the sexiness of KPOP. It makes you wonder, what had caused the shift in sexy concept expectations. So I decided to round some murder suspects who was supposedly responsible for it's critical condition

-We got the Netizen, while for a while we had accussed the netizens for taking a hypocritical stance for killing female sexy concepts while leaving crotch thrusts intact. Cross Gene and U-Kiss had faced the conservatism wrath like the female artists. But the fact the high ranked Netizen go on about how they in hyperbole are watching porn supposedly had been responsible

-Then we got the Kanryu fans, closest fans of the rival nation's music (KPOP for Japanese fans, JPOP for Korean fans) who wants music to be catered to their original tastes. So the Korean fan who secretly watches AKB48 videos wants his KPOP to be more like AKB48 with schoolgirls, innocence and none of them yucky swimsuit shoots while Japanese fans are disgusted by the sexiness these korean girls are exhibiting that their precious Mayuyu will never do like wear a hip hop outfit or do hip swaying dances. Sadly the Hallyu has been on the decline in Japan due to oversaturation so their role in the attempted murder is suspect.

-The networks, one part conservatism and all parts profit they want to aggressively push the Hallyu to the outside world while forgetting that it's America which really got them to take off overseas. Without the adaptation of western music KPOP would have a harder time keeping the good reputation and brownie points with western media as we had seen Billboard until recently aggressively promote. But they also need money and Japan have a strong market as well so they have cater enough to Japan's tastes. The Big Three dominates the charts and they want to maintain influence so they got reasons to neuter the sexy concepts. But as someone says, never shit on the plate you eat with.

So what do you think of sexy concepts back in the day and who is responsible for putting it in it's sorry state right now?

Different people running the censoring boards?

I think the rating system did the opposite of what people though it would too. People were worried it would make everything more conservative but it's allowed artist to get more sexual.

The reason why main stream K-pop got a little more conservative around the time most 2nd gen idols started debuting is because the digital market was also introduced around then and it was so much cheaper than albums that so many artist were losing money so the government helped fund some companies which meant they also had more control.

tbh theres not much difference in the look but rather the confidence level.

back then girls did sexy concepts because they were sexy and fit that concept. these days the company forces a sexy concept on everyone because it gains more attention and makes money and it just looks forced and bad.

people also had less of a problem with it because the cute groups still outnumbered the sexy.
