But in the end, SM only cares about their bottom line. If they bar EXO from going on TV all they're going to manage is that they're all going to leave together at contract expiration and create their own company, and this would hurt SM financially. To me them talking publicly about it is a warning to SM : if you keep managing us that way we're all going to leave, and it's going to be your loss.
