There are a lot of reasons why someone would pay $2M for a painting like this

But I will only defend this by saying that paintings like this are unique and actually pretty hard to replicate. Meanwhile, realistic paintings are actually easy to make (yeah) and way too common.

No one other than the artist himself would be able to put those dots in the place he put or draw that thing in the way he did because this is a style unique to him, it only makes sense to him and that's what makes it unique and hard to replicate.

That's why Picasso's cubism works are way more acclaimed than his early hyper realistic ones. They may look simple, but it's a style unique to him and that only him know how to do it.

wow, these dots have changed my life

please, this is hideous , There are many stupid arts out there which are sold  by rich people to rich people for the sake of keeping their money or for the sake of the painter himself . I mean take the example of the fashion brands nowadays, there are many hideous outfits but the masses eat them up just to show off. It's called stupidity and capitalism

Well, this is the other (and mainly) reason to why someone would pay $2M for this. lol

But really, beauty is subjective. You may not like those paintings and clothes, but there are people that actually like it.

Also, about the clothes thing, the reason they are so expensive is almost always due to how they are made, who are making them and the amount that was made. A lot of designer clothes are similar to limited edition action figures made by hand... people buy them to, in a way, "collect" them.

But yeah, fuck capitalism

Actually the composition is really nice and as a piece of art, I respect it.

Do I understand why someone would pay 2 million for it? No. Even 2 thousand I wouldn't understand. $200... Yeah. I understand that. Not something I'd shell out $200 on but I'd understand that.

But it's not my money, not my problem. I don't even care enough to be irritated.

But realistically I wouldn't pay anything for it because I have no idea what I'd do with a piece like that.

See, what REALLY bothers me is Rothkos... I will never understand why people like those damn Rothkos so much. Fuck. Those actually do irritate me.
