Detailed explanation ab the toxic culture of Chinese entertainment, specific focus on Godfrey Gao

She goes over the contract that the actors have to sign prior to filming the show:

The competition/performance of this program has very fierce competition, may cause the participant (actor) physical and psychological burden. Participants need to have ample understanding of this. Fully, self-willingly take part and fully self-willingly take any possible outcomes. The participants need to obey the production company (zhejiang tv) program management, arrive to shooting on time, follow the rules on set...

So basically, if you die in this, it's your own damn fault.
This is so horrible. I hope his family sues them...

I can understand the nature for him to do this program. Normally, the program shooting is 2 days time length, and the rest of the week is free. It is really up for his manager to arrange the artiste time. It really up to the responsibilities of individual to take care of themselves. There was an ambulance standby.

I have watch a few episode of this show, all artisite have to mentally what they gonna get during the show. 1.9km of running and crossing four or five station. It is like running for army SOC w/o 20kg gears. People have to plan to last their race. Full strength running will make you collapse right away. Not everyone will run the full course. There is other game along the way.

I hope they cancel the show. But in their statement they weren't clear about what are they going to do, they are shameless. If they don't cancel it I hope the companies do not send their artists there anymore.

Knowing how mafia like can be there I don't know if his family can do anything about it. I wish they could see justice this is so tragic and meaningless.

Apparently he was left unattended to after he collapsed for ab 4 to 7-ish minutes, even if they do cancel it, who's to say that another show just as bad won't appear in its place after they axe this one...

It's just tragic that this happened, and I hope his family can get some kind of compensation...

Yeah, I mean cancel the show would be the bare minimum but you are right.

I hope that too but he isn't coming back and it was preventable, can't imagine how they feel.

I kind of understand the contract because sports-based shows and surgical operations both ask you to sign 'No responsibility' docs. But such heavy-duty program should have had better medical support on spot for the specific sort of situ that caused Gao's passing. I think he died because of their negligence.

Hey dumbass. When a person collapse someone, even if they’re not medic can attend to that person to make sure he’s ok and still breathing. If the person knows any CPR the person can administer it without a medic. Sometimes someone who doesn’t know CPR can still do it. As long as there’s chest compression and proper air administration, the person who collapse has a chance to live.
