Article: Was the Grammy wall too tall... BTS falls off Grammy nominations

Source: Joongang Ilbo via Nate

1. [+795, -66] I think even being mentioned by them was amazing already, I support you!!!!

2. [+742, -82] At the end of the article, it mentions that the Grammy judges more on artistic ability and musicality rather than popularity. You have to admit that their standards are different from Korean award ceremonies.

3. [+583, -67] There's always next year~ I think it's amazing already that they're being mentioned~

4. [+52, -17] The fact that BTS is still in the news for not being nominated for a Grammy proves that they're amazing already. It's surprising that we've reached a point where dreaming about something like this is attainable.

5. [+51, -9] Reminds me of a Bong Joon Ho interview. When a reporter asked him why Korean movies haven't been nominated for the Oscars despite great influence in the past 20 years, he said, "It's weird but not a big deal. The Oscars is not an international film festival, right? It's a local festival."

6. [+47, -11] Quite Grammy-like of them considering this is the same ceremony that ignored Beyonce during the peak years of her career

7. [+37, -25] Probably because the Grammy isn't a place you can win a trophy just off of fan labor

8. [+31, -16] Not a big deal, it's amazing enough to be mentioned anyway

9. [+24, -9] But BTS had the #1 album sales in the world and everyone in #2, #3, and #4 below them made it in the nominations except for BTS;
- It's not only about album sales. This is the same ceremony that shafted Bieber on the rookie award for some nugu.

10. [+22, -1] I don't think the best replies know what they're talking about. Go look up why so many famous black artists are boycotting the Grammy. Even Western media journalists are saying that BTS not being nominated is the same type of discrimination faced by other POCs and criticizing the Grammy for their white-centric, English-only album nominations.

nah, Grammys judges are on where you are from. They won't give noms to asians.

white industry is mad about BTS, it's time to wake up, Korea.

tbh i'm not even mad of surprised, I just really hope they don't attend even if they are invited, and i hope their rumored cb date is true cause it will be interesting.

Even though the Grammys are basically popularity awards,  groups in general don’t make it there. Spice Girls, NSYNC, Backstreet Boys, One Direction, Little Mix etc. none made it. And they were huge. BTS is huge too among Kpop fans, but what chance could they have considering their predecessors?

It's been a while since this award show was exposed as xenophobic and racist as fuck, I can't even bring myself to be upset over BTS not getting a nom, after some stuff that happened this year I'm not surprised at all.

Netizenbutts aside, never knew I would read a headline like this.

One of the amazing things about BTS is that they achieve things step by step. Their progress has been little by little. This year they presented at the award and now their outfits are displayed in the Grammy museum. Next year will be extraordinary! 💜💜

i was kinda surprised when i found out that bts didnt nominated for at least one category, but then i remembered that the grammys have a history for ignoring boy and girl groups even if they are breaking records and are extremely successful.

The fact that they were being mentioned for it is already an achievement 😊

I hope this thread doesn't become a fanwar but who I am fooling.

i don't think it will, from what i've seen in years, people's opinion on the grammys are mostly the same, it's a white fest but they might bring some pocs to pretend it isn't, only that.

btw believing that BTS, who had the biggest sales for an album worldwide this year, is honored by just being mentioned on Grammys just gives this xenophobic awards more power, people should be careful about that. Being mentioned is nothing compared to their actual achievments.

Yes *cough* *cough*, some of the nominations over the last couple years have definitely shown us they don't base the noms and wins on charts or popularity of an artist 🙃

it's a local award show. bts local sales don't compare to some of the pop artist nominated. plus there are still barriers as you've mentioned.

anyways,  i think it's perfectly fine for fans to be happy for bts right now. i don't think anyone every thought a korean boy group specially one from a once nugu company would even be at this point in their careers right now. i believe that's something worth being recognized, even if it's just a mention by industry people...

however in the future i do hope the grammys don't continue to use bts for hype...unless they actually have plans to give them something one day...

bts did good, yes

but what do their album sales in the us look like compared to the other pop artist nominated?

they didn't have any song with a real impact with general public. i wouldn't consider bwl a big hit either in the us

not saying these things are necessary for a pop artist to be nominated...but it is something to think about..

The Recording Academy clearly wants BTS to do well, they’ve gone above and beyond with the things they’ve done with them.

What the RA can’t control is the monster they’ve created, the voters, who are old, largely male, largely white and stuck in their lazy, old and xenophobic ways.

The fact BTS was considered is a big deal in itself, the fact that a wide spectrum of people are talking about them in the positive and that they were snubbed, is again a positive.

We’ll smash more records and make more history with BTS in the coming year, for now stream BWL / DNA on Spotify and YouTube and look forward to the next comeback.

It took forever for POC people to make it to the GRAMMY's, they're known to be racist and xenophobic.

Groups have never made it whatever color or ethnicity, so it's not a specific surprise BTS didn't. Like always using them for clout, wbk.
