[Pann] Why is it that the new boy groups are in the decline (feat. BTS & EXO + Wanna One)?

There were no beef between wannables and armys, unless we're talking about the 12 years old fighting over petty stuff, both fandoms were nice with each other (tbt that one time where wannables did fanchants for spring day because bts had been announced to attend an award ceremony last minute and there weren't many armys attending). I remember 1 beef between exo-ls and wannables, but overall I think the OP meant the clash of three big groups in term of popularity/streaming/charting, then yes third gen was defo bts vs exo vs w1.

And nct isn't 4th gen, I'd say they're in the shadow of bts/exo, like mx and svt are atm.

As for a reason why the "4th gen" is "declining" :

- it hasn't really started yet

- most active kpop fans both in korea and intl are stuck with current big promoting groups, like bts and exo, and other mid-tier bgs with consistent fandoms. TXT and X1 have time to grow, along with SK and Ateez, The Boys too I think?? idk much rookies/young groups atm except those three lmao

1st gen: Super Junior, TVXQ, etc

:wut: ????

what?! since when suju and TVXQ are from 1st generation?

they are from 2nd generation. 1s generation should be shinhwa, HOT,  SechsKies, G.O.D (probably there is more. i dont know much of who was the top groups of that generation)

who wrote this on pann? bc cleary they know sh*t about old groups

also i dont think 4th generation have started yet. i think we will start to see it once bts and exo will go through an hiatus phase bc of military. some members of exo are already there but at some point, like it happened with suju, almost all the members will be in the army at same time

Since when BTS vs. W1 was a thing?

All I remember is antis wishing that W1 would end BTS once they debut and it didn't happen

I might get down voted but I went to korea last year and even tho BTS is really popular, wanna one was everywhere. Is not like they ended BTS or EXO cuz they were pretty popular but the number 1 group at that time was wanna one. Internationally wanna one doesn't compared to BTS or even EXO and that's why I think people kinda downplay them.

edit1: I think that in korea was more like bts vs wanna vs exo, not internationally. I still think about MAMA 2017👀

First, I'm more confused how Super Junior and TVXQ are considered 1st gen since they've always pretty much been lumped with second gen idols.

But anyways, I wouldn't call a lot of these boy groups 'flops' per say. Yeah, there are various potential factors that may explain why a lot of them aren't topping digitals or whatnot. But a lot of these groups bring in great sales and good touring, which is why it still pays to have them around. Though, admittingly at times it can be frustrating for fans when they see what looks like wasted opportunities by the companies.

6. [+61, -0] It was so fun and messy during EXO vs. BTS vs. Wanna One.

since when EXO vs Wanna One was a thing or BTS vs Wanna One? there wasn't such thing. They didn't compete since Wanna one were rookies and disbanded after their rookie year, while EXO and BTS were already big by the time of W1 debut. Because the difference between W1 and the other rookies was big, their fans hoped they could reach EXO and BTS status, so W1 fans were those who put them with the other two and brag about top 3. ( until then "EBS" was a fan thing but got replaced by "EBW".) Seventeen grew in 2018-2019 so those who used EBS term in  2016- 2017 proved to be visionary  😉

W1 was a hot sensation, while EXO and BTS are established groups who are doing well for years. W1 were like EXO in 2013,  a hot new group, but they disbanded before even trying to establish themselves. We don't know if they would have passed to another level.

Also, I would have put Suju and TVXQ in the 2nd generation with Big Bang and the others.

No new boy groups are standing out because the ones at the very top are still doing so well. BTS is killing it with no signs of decline any time soon. EXO's popularity is still massive despite infrequent comebacks and members starting to enlist. Idk much about Seventeen but I heard they've been breaking their own records for album sales so they're fine too. With Produce being huge in recent times, everyone just latches on their groups because of the guaranteed success factor and of course the attachment associated with having a say in the final line-up. It's not a shocker that it's difficult for new boy groups to stand out (especially ones from small companies, aka BTS back in the days).
