[Pann] Why is it that the new boy groups are in the decline (feat. BTS & EXO + Wanna One)?

Pann: How did the boy group industry of K-pop flop like this?

1st gen: Super Junior, TVXQ, etc
2nd gen: Bigbang, B2ST, 2PM, 2AM, B1A4, Infinite, SHINee, etc.
3rd gen: BTS, Wanna One, EXO
4th gen: X1, NCT, TXT(?)

1. [+378, -14] I think it's because of Produce 101. The show messed up the idol industry.

2. [+266, -27] At least NCT and TXT are doing well. And it's because the core fans are stuck in the 1st tier groups. Unless they change, the fourth generation won't come.

3. [+198, -3] It'll happen eventually. The reason why we don't see the next generation is because the peak time of the current generation is long.

4. [+78, -1] For NCT, NCT Dream is getting good results but the team isn't a fixed one ㅋㅋㅋㅋ They won't get popular unless they change the format. They change the members as soon as the fandom starts to be formed, f*ck...

5. [+74, -1] Honestly, BTS and EXO aren't declining any time soon. It's amazing.

6. [+61, -0] It was so fun and messy during EXO vs. BTS vs. Wanna One.

7. [+51, -2] Leave NCT alone. Who are you to be talking about NCT like that as if you're an expert of K-pop?

8. [+43, -7] If SM stops with their rotation system and debut a proper group, they'll easily dominate the scene. The first gen, second gen, and third gen all have SM groups.

I wouldn’t say txt are leading the fourth gen yet. They have potential but they need more time to develop imo

x1 could’ve had a chance but with all the produce scandals its stunted them for sure

Nct isnt even 4th gen, didnt they debut in like 2016??

4th gen distinction will only become clear when the 3rd gen start declining which isn’t any time soon

I think NCT and TXT won't really catch on because they will always be overshadowed by their senior groups. Especially with TXT, most people just see them as BTS little brothers who ARMY support. They don't view them as their own thing. And no matter how much NCT stans make a fuss, its the concept that's hindering them.

BTS are the only ones who havent peaked yet so we dont even talk about declining

Yes I was gonna say, EXO are obviously popular but the mania around them has definitely declined. I think BTS is the only one still gaining fans at a rapid pace. And Wanna One doesn't even exist anymore lmao. But I guess their fans went off to their individual ventures

Armys and Wannables were pretty fine with each other, tbh.

Eggs hate BTS guts till today so...

I feel like what it was was ARMY and EXO-l hated each other and were constantly tryna get Wannables on their sides in the ongoing war between them. and then wannables were just messy on their own...

Probably because of their definition of 4th gen is inconsistent with the others. 2nd and 3rd gens were counted as beginning when there was a significant shift in popularity among groups, why 4th gen is held to a different standard? It will start when some other group will take over the stage from them.

That’s what people said about 2nd gen too, that they were dominating over the 3rd gen groups of the time like Infinite, which is now considered 2nd gen too.

4th gen just started lol YG NBG, SM NBG, BH X CJ E&M NBG, CUBE NBG have not debuted yet.

TXT, If I have to say, Run Away charting better than more popular sunbaenims GOT7/MX with small fanbase so just need to establish themselves with fandom and GP. TDC:Magic will bring them lots of fans for sure. They on right path.

X1 have potential to be 4th gen leader if Mnet fixed whatever going on. Already sales wise top rookie.

Ateez is really popular internationally as well.

SKZ need to find their musical ground.

NCT not even 4th gen.

💀 🤮

tbh I never quite got when and why people felt like the 4th gen started. not that I'm vehemently against the idea, I've just never have seen a sound justification or breakdown. It also might be because everyone feel like no one will ever get to BTS/EXO level, so waiting for that to happen is pointless and we might as well just start one now.

produce 101 rlly did mess up the industry. instead of getting more viable bgs from low tier companies all of the best trainees got sent to produce only to get largely mistreated, w1 debuted and crowded out all other debuts that year and in subsequent years, and then half the successful w1 members ended up as soloists.
