He probably undercut his fellow colleagues in fees since he's desperate for money. Most Korean variety shows build a team of dispensable second tier comedians + idol/actor around a first tier comedian like Kang Ho Dong or Yoo Jae Suk. They won't really care about the quality of the second tier comedians as the focus is on the first tier comedian so if Lee Sang Min is cheap, they'll gladly take him.
