Taking B complex pills for anxiety... anyone tried that?

Due to various reasons I can't afford to got to a therapist right now so I went to a pharmacy to ask for something that calms anxiety and nerves and she recommended B complex and said it reduces problems with nerves which I do have because my anxiety actually causes me physical pain... like my nerves are hurting me.

It's not expensive (it costs 10$ here) and I wonder if it's worth trying out.

Never heard of that, I don’t know where you are but can’t a GP give you some anti anxiety pills for emergencies?

I’ve suffered from anxiety in the past, one thing I found that worked for me was filling up a basin with water and submerging my face and holding my breath as long as I could. It temporarily resets your autonomic nervous system, but it’s just temporary. Developing breathing techniques is also really useful - deep breaths from your stomach, trying to breathe as slow as possible and count while breathing with more counts when breathing out than breathing in. Doing exercise can be helpful to take your mind off things and increase your mood - walking, cycling, running etc. Meditation and mindfulness can really help.

Long-term try to do happy, fun activities - listening to music you like, doing art of some kind, dancing - things you find relaxing and fun.

B complex is like multiple B vitamins pills

I remember when I hurt my leg and started to have problems with it later made me uncomfortable and the pain was basically from my leg nerves, the doctor told me to take B complex

it helped alot but now if I stop it the pain will come back eventually

but at least I had no side effects from it

I have used them. They are supplements to take when you already take other anxiety medication, they don’t work on their own. At least they didn’t for me. They actually made my anxiety better when I took them both, but I stopped using them when I increased the dose, I didn’t need them anymore.

The only over the counter anxiety medication I’ve used that wctually worked for me is huge doses of chamomile tea. And Melatonin sometimes, though that’s actually for sleep, but since anxiety and sleep can be related, it can help with anxiety too. It’s easy to develop immunity to Melatonin though.

I know I'm not allowed to take B complex, too much B6 can be dangerous (organ failure)... Should take a blood test and see if you're actually missing something. Lacking certain nutrients CAN affect your mental health but if you're a general happy person, I don't think simply lacking a nutrient can cause anxiety... Unless it's vitamin D, vitamin D is the cause behind seasonal depression (less sunlight = less vitamin D)

That said, if your issues are caused by a life event, trauma or hormonal issue, living healthier or supplementing won't help... Speaking from experience...
