Kpop US promotions

Since a lot of people still seem to not understand, basically SuperM was a "let's see" movement and it'll most likely make SM & Capitol's relationship stronger (Don't be surprised if we get news on Capitol signing another SM group for US promos) why? because :

1.- The relation with China is still not good

2.- The relation with Japan is worsening

3.- " South Korea could face another major economic crisis next year in the likes of the 1997 Asian financial meltdown or the 2008 economic collapse, warned local economists.

The most likely timing of the crisis was in the second half of 2020 (40 percent), followed by the first half of 2020 (6.6 percent) and the fourth quarter of 2019 (3.3 percent).

Nearly all experts gave a grim outlook of the Korean economy. Out of the total 30 respondents, 29 projected the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) to grow by less than 2 percent this year, well below the government estimate of 2.4-2.5 percent or the Bank of Korea’s 2.2 percent.

Asia’s fourth-largest economy saw its GDP in the April-June period gain 1.0 percent on quarter after contracting 0.4 percent in the previous three months, its lowest growth in a decade. "

So yeah, SuperM won't be the last to try a US debut/promo

And stop with the hate and the flop calling, if you don't like something okay, but there's no need to bring more hate, haven't you learn that it is bad to bring hate? If you have nothing good to say then better stay quiet, if you're not gonna at least give them a chance, then just ignore them.

but none of this changes the fact that they should have just...idk, tried to promote normally and organically? super m likely did not make a profit. don't see how that is strengthening sm and capitol's relationship when the press is negative and sm is already trying to throw capitol under the bus

look at it like this, Capitol accept signing other SM groups with the condition that SM shows that they can sell, so they formed SuperM which is something Capitol agreed and funded, so yes it'll strenght them becuase they probably did make money and they will probably sign other groups, is a risk but at the same time even if they failed they won't had lose much

what makes you think super m made them a single cent lol. they spent a ton on the the mv and promotion, but their album sales are grossly sub par and inflated by bundles, many of which involved sale of cheap concert tickets and cheap merch. u.s tours are very expensive for kpop acts and super m hasn't sold out a single show afaik. where is the profit coming from? thats all i'm saying.

becuase they did

It's inevitable.

All of those economic facts notwithstanding, and all of which are true, Japan isn't the goldmine it once was, China is trying to secure it's own insular culture, the Americas and Europe are the only markets left. Even without that wall going around China, the fact that BTS just got shit ton of gold and platinum certifications handed to it by the RIAA and Billboard will fuel it. I'm not saying that K-pop is about to dominate the western markets, but it's only going to get further into the mainstream from here.

Hmmm, I dont agree with much. To me kpop groups promoting in USA will keep happening for a while, but because since a group made it there the opportunities there increased a lot.

I think SM attempt have more to do with a possible change for idols enlistment, since one of the biggest reasons to be given about BTS possible exception is related to BB charts (thought im fact we know it's because of economy).  If SM wanted to actually test waters I believe they would try a very different and more organic approach, like basically every group going to Usa is doing.

This is the most unlikely case tbh, why? because SM actually takes great pride on the Military Service, you can search about SM enlisting and it actually helped them more that damaged them, what SM is doing now to actually not lose much when their male artists enlist is getting more foreigner artists (Wayv as an example)

I mean.... sure. But when they have to let their most popular male idols enlist it's always a loss money wise, so gathering them in one group to get an excemption to them all so they can keep promoting in Korea seems plausible to me. Also Korean public seems to have become less and less welcoming towards foreign idols, sadly.

But idk, i guess we have to wait and see.

The money maker is actually TVXQ and they already enlisted, so the money they will lose its no more than when they enlisted, also pretty unlikely SM (all big 3 at this) will get exemptions since one of the major shareholders is the National Pension Service of Korea and why does it matter well just for the "national" title it could bring some debate, also, SM idols are known for being good with the military thing so for the new ones to not do it will just bring hate to them, specially if they compare in cases of like Kyuhyun's

In thia case as I said I guess we will have to wait to see. Again I think if SM wanted to test waters only they would try a very different  approach.

Not if they wanted to get on Capital's side fast, I wouldn't be surprised if they announce Red Velvet and Exo to be working in the US with Capitol, this project was most like for that just like when they began working in Japan
